Job details:
As a Robotics Software Engineer for Outdoor Autonomy, you will own the autonomy stack that makes that possible: localisation, mapping, planning, perception, and the safety logic that surrounds them. You will take autonomy from development through field tuning on real vehicles.
If you have shipped outdoor autonomy on real ground robots, and you know how navigation breaks when the GPS drops and the terrain gets ugly, this role is built for you.
Day-to-Day Activities
- Develop and deploy the outdoor autonomy stack: localisation, mapping, path planning, and navigation, in ROS/ROS2
- Implement sensor fusion across GPS/GNSS, IMU, LiDAR, cameras, and wheel odometry
- Build SLAM and state estimation that hold up in GPS-degraded and GPS-denied environments
- Develop terrain-aware path planning and obstacle avoidance for unstructured ground
- Build perception for outdoor, unstructured environments
- Implement behaviour and mission logic together with safety and fallback layers
- Integrate autonomy with motion control and operator interfaces
- Run field tests, tune the stack, and debug autonomy behaviour on real vehicles
- Build logging, telemetry, and replay tooling that gives the team visibility into autonomy decisions
Requirements and Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional robotics software development experience
- Degree in Robotics, Computer Science, ECE, or a related field
- Strong C++ and Python
- Deep, hands-on experience with ROS / ROS2
- Proven experience with outdoor or ground-robot autonomy
- Strong background in SLAM, localisation, and state estimation
- Experience with path planning, navigation, and obstacle avoidance
- Experience with multi-sensor fusion (GPS/GNSS, IMU, LiDAR, cameras)
- Comfort working in Linux and a track record of real-world field deployment
Preferred Skills (Good to Have)
- Experience with GPS-denied navigation
- Experience with LiDAR-based or visual SLAM
- Exposure to perception and machine learning for robotics
- Experience with multi-vehicle coordination
- Background in agriculture, mining, or other field robotics
- Experience with simulation tools such as Gazebo
