Applied Retention is a Mumbai based AI startup building the future of retention and lifecycle marketing in India. We are building an AI powered customer intelligence and decisioning platform that moves marketing away from if/then journeys to dynamic, highly contextual, 1:1 personalized journeys.
Marketing today runs on events. Someone clicked, someone abandoned a cart, someone opened an email. CEPs collect these events and let marketers build if/then journeys on top of them. The problem is not data, it's decisioning. Brands have more customer data than ever, sitting across warehouses, CRMs, and CEPs, but the actual decisions about who to talk to, what to offer, and when, still get made by marketers in segment builders. That's why personalization at scale still feels generic. Applied Retention is the intelligence layer that sits between the data and the CEP. We model each customer individually, decide the right offer, channel, and moment, and pass those decisions to the CEP for execution.
Our goal is to increase the ROAS and lifetime value of every customer that brands spend so heavily to acquire. With CACs rising and ROAS dwindling, retention is how businesses profitably scale and grow. Applied Retention uses AI to understand customers as people, their intent, their preferences, their context, and turns that understanding into the right decision for every individual.

Role Description
We are looking for our founding retention and lifecycle marketer. This is not a campaign execution role. You will not be building journeys, writing copy, or pushing sends. You will be the voice of the retention marketer inside Applied Retention, and you will help shape what we build, how we sell it, and what kind of company we become.
You should be excellent in translating your marketing experience & knowledge to a forward looking product development, strategy, and GTM role. As a founding member building a 0-1 AI startup, your passion, ability to take ownership and willingness to go above and beyond is most important.
You should have
- 5+ years doing lifecycle, retention, or CRM at a company in the D2C, e-commerce, subscription, fintech, gaming, OTT, delivery or other space
- Hands on experience with major CEPs (CleverTap, MoEngage, WebEngage, Klaviyo)
- Strong command on building the right journeys and campaigns and have a good instincts for cohort analysis, LTV, discount strategy, and channel mix
- Strong opinions on why most retention marketing underperforms and what a tech solution should look like
- Comfort with ambiguity, strong writing, and comfort in front of customers and other stakeholders
- Be based in Mumbai or willing to relocate to Mumbai
