Role Overview
We are looking for a highly hands-on Retail Operations & Automation Consultant to build and operationalize the complete operating system for a large-scale wholesale + retail fresh-produce business.
This is not an advisory-only role. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, documenting and continuously improving the systems that enable the business to operate efficiently with minimal Founder intervention.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to progress into a Chief Operating Officer (COO) role based on measurable operational results.
What You Will Own
- Build a scalable retail and wholesale operating structure covering manpower, departments, shifts, SOPs, KPIs and reporting.
- Design processes that reduce routine Founder dependency and move the business toward system-driven operations.
- Develop and implement SOPs for opening, wholesale rush, receiving, inventory, billing, dispatch, wastage, closing and audits.
- Evaluate, select and implement ERP/POS systems covering billing, inventory, procurement, GRN, wastage, pricing, attendance, expenses, online orders, dashboards and alerts.
- Establish strong controls for procurement, receiving, inventory, cash, wastage, shrinkage and unauthorized discounts.
- Build shelf-life, FIFO/FEFO, ageing and near-expiry management for fresh and perishable products.
- Design high-efficiency morning wholesale operations with focus on throughput, queue management and minimum practical manpower.
- Establish retail operating standards covering replenishment, customer service, billing, returns, pricing, cleanliness and product availability.
- Build KPI dashboards covering sales, margins, inventory accuracy, wastage, shrinkage, productivity, procurement and operating costs.
- Create exception-based reporting so management receives critical alerts instead of routine operational problems.
- Train managers and employees on SOPs, systems, controls and performance expectations.
- Establish daily, weekly and monthly audit mechanisms.
- Continuously identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary manpower, technology, vendor and operating costs without compromising quality or security.
- Build a replicable operating model that can eventually support expansion into multiple markets.
Mandatory Requirements
- 8–15+ years of relevant retail/operations experience. Exceptional hands-on candidates with strong results may also be considered.
- Strong hands-on experience in large-format retail, supermarket, hypermarket, wholesale, fresh produce or FMCG distribution.

- Data-driven, process-oriented and highly execution-focused.
- Strong negotiation and vendor-management skills.
- Willingness to work hands-on from Day 1.

- Large-format retail
- Supermarkets / hypermarkets
- Wholesale markets
- Fresh-produce businesses
- FMCG distribution
- Big-box retail environments
Experience with organizations such as DMart, Reliance Retail, Big Bazaar, Spencer's, Star Bazaar, More Retail, Metro Cash & Carry, Walmart or similar operating environments would be highly relevant.
Experience handling fruits & vegetables, perishables and high-volume fresh-produce operations will be a strong advantage.

Compensation
- Fixed monthly salary
- Performance-linked incentives based on measurable operational outcomes
- Incentives may be linked to ERP implementation, SOP rollout, automation, wastage/shrinkage reduction, inventory accuracy, productivity, cost savings and profitability improvement.
