About The Company
Turing is one of the world's fastest-growing AI companies dedicated to accelerating the development and deployment of advanced artificial intelligence systems. With a focus on innovative research and practical applications, Turing collaborates with leading technology firms to push the boundaries of what AI can achieve. The company's mission is to create impactful AI solutions that enhance productivity, solve complex problems, and transform industries globally. Turing prides itself on fostering a dynamic, inclusive, and forward-thinking environment where talented professionals can thrive and contribute to cutting-edge projects in AI and software engineering.
About The Role
We are seeking experienced software engineers at the tech lead level to join our innovative team working on large language model (LLM) evaluation and training datasets. This role involves engaging directly with high-quality, publicly available GitHub repositories to develop verifiable software engineering tasks, which are essential for training LLMs to handle realistic software engineering problems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, with expertise in navigating complex codebases, automating development environments, and assessing code quality and test coverage. Your hands-on contributions will help expand dataset coverage across various programming languages and difficulty levels, directly influencing the future of AI-assisted software development.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of three years of professional experience in software engineering, with proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Ruby, Python, or JavaScript. Strong familiarity with Git for version control, Docker for environment management, and basic software pipeline setups is essential. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to understand and navigate complex codebases, run, modify, and test real-world projects locally, and contribute to open-source projects or similar collaborative efforts. Experience participating in or evaluating LLM research projects, building developer tools, or automation agents is considered a plus. A proactive attitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in a remote setting are highly valued.
Responsibilities
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include analyzing and triaging issues across trending open-source libraries on GitHub, setting up and configuring repositories—including Dockerization and environment setup—and evaluating unit test coverage and quality. You will modify and run codebases locally to assess the performance of LLMs in bug-fixing scenarios, collaborating with researchers to identify challenging repositories and issues for LLM evaluation. Additionally, there will be opportunities to lead junior engineers, guiding collaborative efforts and ensuring project milestones are met. You will work closely with AI researchers and software engineers to design synthetic, verifiable software engineering tasks, expanding dataset coverage across multiple programming languages and difficulty levels, ultimately contributing to advancements in AI-powered software development tools.
Benefits
Joining Turing offers the opportunity to work remotely from anywhere in the world, providing flexibility and work-life balance. You will be part of a pioneering team working on cutting-edge AI projects that influence the future of software engineering. Turing provides a collaborative environment where your contributions directly impact the development of AI systems capable of understanding and generating complex code. Additionally, you will have access to a global network of talented professionals, continuous learning opportunities, and the chance to work with leading LLM companies on innovative projects. As a contractor, you can choose your preferred workload, with options for 20, 30, or 40 hours per week, allowing you to tailor your engagement to your personal and professional commitments.
Equal Opportunity
Turing is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and applicants. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, providing equal employment opportunities regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic. We believe that diversity fosters innovation and excellence, and we strive to ensure that all team members feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their best work.
