JOB TITLE: Release Manager (ServiceNow – ITSM)
LOCATION: India - Remote
WORK HOURS: IST evening hours with required overlap with US Central Time mornings
NOTE: This role is fully remote and on an Independent Contractor setup.
Summary
The Release Manager will lead the establishment, operationalization, and continuous evolution of the enterprise Release Management function using the ServiceNow Release Management module. This role is responsible not only for executing and governing releases, but also for driving strategic improvements to the organization’s overall release management maturity, standards, and operating model.
The ideal candidate is a strong thought leader with deep hands-on experience in enterprise Release Management, capable of challenging existing processes, introducing best practices, and leading transformational improvements across infrastructure, network, and IT service delivery teams. This individual must be able to influence stakeholders, provide leadership across cross-functional teams, and elevate the Release Management capability to the next level.
Responsibilities
- Establish, operationalize, and continuously improve the Release Management process using the ServiceNow Release Management module.
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable release governance frameworks, standards, controls, and best practices.
- Drive strategic improvements and modernization initiatives within the Release Management function to improve operational efficiency, stability, and delivery outcomes.
- Serve as the primary Release Management subject matter expert and provide leadership across IT, infrastructure, network, and service delivery teams.
- Directly support the planning, coordination, and execution of multiple infrastructure and network releases across enterprise environments.
- Ensure all releases adhere to defined governance standards, including testing, validation, risk assessment, compliance, approvals, and deployment readiness.
- Enforce release oversight and compliance across internal IT teams, vendors, and service providers.
- Identify process gaps, operational risks, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities within the release lifecycle and implement corrective actions.
- Track unplanned rollbacks, release failures, and release-related incidents; perform root cause analysis and drive preventive and corrective improvement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain enterprise release calendars, release documentation, reporting metrics, KPIs, dashboards, and executive-level communications.
- Collaborate with ITSM teams, internal stakeholders, and external partners to align release schedules, dependencies, communication plans, and deployment activities.
- Facilitate release governance meetings, CAB discussions, post-release reviews, and lessons learned sessions.
- Mentor and guide teams on Release Management best practices, governance expectations, and process adherence.
- Operate effectively within a fast-paced, globally distributed delivery model while managing competing priorities and critical timelines.
Qualifications
- Proven experience leading enterprise Release Management functions using the ServiceNow Release Management module.
- Strong hands-on experience establishing or transforming Release Management processes and governance frameworks in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated leadership capability with the ability to influence stakeholders, drive process improvements, and lead organizational change initiatives.
- Strong thought leadership and strategic mindset with the ability to challenge existing practices and introduce innovative improvements.
- Deep understanding of ITIL-based Release, Change, and Incident Management practices.
- Extensive experience supporting infrastructure and/or network releases within complex enterprise IT environments.
- Experience managing cross-functional coordination across globally distributed teams and service providers.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, facilitation, and executive presentation skills.
- Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on operational execution.
- Experience working in fast-paced, high-volume enterprise delivery environments.
- ITIL certification and/or ServiceNow certifications are highly preferred.
