Rekise Marine is a startup focused on sustainably enhancing the utility of oceans through autonomous robotic infrastructure. Our efforts center on developing advanced autonomous technology for the maritime industry, serving both defense and commercial sectors globally. We specialize in creating autonomous vessels—both surface and underwater—as well as autonomous port infrastructure. Currently, we are building the flagship autonomous platform of the Indian Navy.

About the Role

As a lead UI/UX designer, you will play a critical role in creating the sole interface for user interaction with our multi-million dollar autonomous platforms. These platforms operate in the ocean under challenging conditions, often thousands of kilometres away from any human intervention. Your design and implementation of the user interface will be pivotal, directly impacting the effectiveness and mission success of these sophisticated systems.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with our founding team and senior engineers, playing a pioneering role in reshaping marine operations in the era of AI and robotics. This is a unique opportunity to work on some of the largest moving robots/autonomous platforms in the world, redefining marine operations and making our cutting-edge technology accessible and user-friendly. Your work will be instrumental in driving the adoption and practical application of our innovations in the maritime domain.

Key Responsibilities 

• Lead the development and design of user interfaces for unmanned marine vehicles, ensuring high usability and seamless interaction, particularly for critical clients like the Indian Navy.
• Collaborate with founding members and engineering teams to understand customer needs, align UI/UX designs with backend functionalities, and address maritime industry challenges.
• Create wireframes, prototypes, and detailed visual designs for controlling marine autonomous vehicles across various platforms.
• Stay updated with the latest UI/UX design trends and technologies to deliver innovative and cutting-edge designs.
• Oversee the outsourcing of UI front-end development, ensuring it aligns with design principles and user experience goals.
• Conduct user testing and feedback sessions to refine designs based on real-world usage and ensure adherence to accessibility and usability standards.
• Drive the UI/UX vision for the company, setting standards and guiding future interface design projects.

Required Skills & Experience

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in design (B Des / M Des), or a related field.
• 3-6 years of relevant experience in design.
• Proven ability to create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, sitemaps, and prototypes to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas.
• Proficiency in design software such as Figma or equivalent tools.
• A robust portfolio showcasing design thinking, process, and solutions for web and mobile applications, with an emphasis on direct contributions and outcomes.

Good to have

• Experience in 3D modelling, such as with Blender.
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and video editing.
• Skills in coordinating with external UI development contractors or consultants.
• Knowledge of A/B testing for UI improvements and user experience optimization.
