The Regional Head – Freight Forwarding & CHA Division will be responsible for leading the overall business, operations, and profitability of the Chennai region. The role involves driving business growth across Air Freight, Ocean Freight, Customs Brokerage (CHA), Transportation, Warehousing, and Value-Added Logistics Services while ensuring operational excellence, statutory compliance, and high customer satisfaction.
The incumbent will have complete ownership of regional P&L, business development, customs clearance operations, stakeholder management, and team leadership to achieve the organization's strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development
- Develop and implement regional business strategies to achieve revenue and profitability targets.
- Acquire new customers across Export, Import, Freight Forwarding, and Customs Brokerage services.
- Strengthen relationships with existing customers and key accounts to increase business volumes.
- Identify opportunities in sectors such as Automotive, Engineering, Manufacturing, Pharma, Electronics, Retail, Chemicals, and Project Cargo.
- Build strategic partnerships with shipping lines, airlines, overseas agents, and logistics partners.
P&L Ownership
- Manage complete regional Profit & Loss (P&L).
- Deliver revenue, gross profit, and EBITDA targets.
- Monitor pricing, margins, operating costs, and overall financial performance.
- Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and periodic business reviews.
Freight Forwarding Operations
- Oversee Air Freight and Ocean Freight (FCL/LCL) operations.
- Ensure timely movement of import and export shipments.
- Optimize routing, carrier selection, freight procurement, and cost management.
- Improve operational efficiency and service delivery through process improvements.
CHA & Customs Operations
- Lead all Customs House Agency (CHA) activities, ensuring smooth customs clearance for import and export consignments.
- Ensure compliance with applicable customs regulations, DGFT provisions, GST requirements, and other statutory guidelines.
- Maintain strong working relationships with Customs authorities, Port authorities, CFS/ICD operators, Shipping Lines, and Terminal Operators.
- Monitor documentation accuracy and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Handle escalations related to customs assessments, examinations, audits, and compliance matters.
Customer Relationship Management
- Develop long-term relationships with key customers and multinational clients.
- Ensure high service standards and timely resolution of customer issues.
- Improve customer satisfaction and retention.
Team Leadership
- Lead Sales, Operations, Customer Service, Documentation, Pricing, and CHA teams.
- Set performance goals, monitor KPIs, and conduct regular performance reviews.
- Mentor and develop future leaders within the region.
- Foster a high-performance, customer-focused, and compliance-driven culture.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Negotiate commercial agreements with shipping lines, airlines, transporters, CFS operators, and logistics partners.
- Maintain effective relationships with Customs officials, Port Trusts, Terminal Operators, and other regulatory authorities.
- Ensure service quality, cost optimization, and operational reliability.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure full compliance with Customs regulations, GST provisions, DGFT guidelines, and company policies.
- Maintain statutory licenses and operational documentation as required.
- Drive quality, safety, and risk management initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, audit requirements, and ethical business practices.
Strategic Planning
- Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer requirements.
- Identify opportunities for market expansion and new service offerings.
- Support digital transformation and operational excellence initiatives.
Experience
- 15–20 years of experience in Freight Forwarding and Customs Brokerage (CHA).
- Minimum 7 years in a senior leadership role with regional responsibility.
- Proven experience in managing Air Freight, Ocean Freight, Customs Clearance, Transportation, and Warehousing operations.
