The Role
The Department of State Development (DSD) is the South Australian Government’s agency driving economic growth in South Australia by attracting new foreign direct investment and increasing exports in sectors of competitive advantage.
The position, based in the Austrade office in New Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru, will play a leading role facilitating and driving the attraction of foreign direct investment (FDI) into South Australia. The position will also help shape and implement South Australia’s trade and export initiatives and programs in India, and to a lesser extent other markets in the South Asia region. You will be required to target priority sectors in India as outlined in South Australia’s International Engagement Strategy.
Reporting to Austrade’s General Manager, South Asia, this role will also require you to lead the development and delivery of official Senior South Australian Government visits and business mission programs across the region, predominantly focussed on the India market. These programs will create opportunities for South Australian businesses and contribute to South Australia’s strategic engagement across the region.
To deliver this role effectively, you will need to build and maintain relationships with senior business leaders, peak industry bodies and government stakeholders across the region. This will enable South Australian businesses linkages with leading corporate, industry and government stakeholders.
Duties include
- Lead and manage the South Australian Government’s trade and investment agenda across South Asia, predominately focussing on the India market, in addition to administrative and operational management including reporting on activities and outcomes.
- Lead and manage the South Australia South Asia in-market team to achieve outcomes in a client focused environment in collaboration with colleagues based within the South Australian Government’s Department of State Development.
- Develop and nurture existing relationships and new contacts and networks to understand trade and investment opportunities for South Australian companies seeking to trade with the South Asian region with a focus on identified priority sectors of opportunity.
- Identify opportunities to promote South Australia as a location for investment and deliver presentations at relevant conferences and business events.
- Initiate and manage trade and investment activities across the region and coordinate and collaborate with South Australian colleagues within the South Australian Government’s Department of State Development.
- Support South Australian exporters in priority sectors to enter and grow across South Asia, including providing market intelligence and connections with commercial partners.
- Monitor and assess key business and sectoral trends as well as significant commercial developments across the region.
- Work with key stakeholders across the South Asian business community, the South Australian Government and relevant Australian Federal agencies to facilitate and promote trade and investment opportunities for South Australian businesses.
- Be commercially savvy and be outcomes focused to deliver and achieve Key Performance Indicator targets for South Australia.
- This role may require additional duties to be completed as directed.

Eligibility
To be eligible for consideration and appointment you must have:
- Work Authorisation - to be eligible for employment with Austrade in India candidates must be legally authorised to live and work in India at the time of appointment.
- Language - the successful candidate must be a highly motivated team member, fluent in written and spoken English.
- Security Clearance - the successful applicant must be willing to complete an Entry Level Screening Pack and be confirmed as a suitable person to access Government resources prior to commencement in the role.
