About the role

Job title: Academic Skills ADVISOR

Directorate: Provost’s Office

Location: Hybrid (various campuses)

Reports to: Academic Skills Programme Manager (PASS)

Work pattern: Full Time (8:00am to 5:00pm / 12noon to 9:00pm) and possibility of Weekends plus one weekday



Overall purpose

We are looking for enthusiastic and student-focused individuals to join our Academic Skills team (ASk@Regent) as part of the new PASS (Preparation for Academic Skills Success) transition to higher education programme. You will support new students in developing the academic/study skills, academic English and digital literacy needed to succeed at university through diagnostics, tailored support, and engaging learning activities to support the strategic direction of RCL’s Widening Access and Participation objectives as they pertain to academic skill development.


Roles and Responsibilities:

Programme Design & Delivery


• Mark and provide feedback on PASS diagnostic and formative assessments.

* Create Learning Development Plans (LDPs) for students.

• Support students through the delivery of extra-curricular small-group workshops, 1-1 tutorials, and webinars on academic writing, study skills, and digital literacy

• Contribute to the development of synchronous and asynchronous learning materials.

• Maintain accurate records of student engagement and support provided.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Work closely with the Programme Manager, Personal Academic Tutors and academic staff to ensure effective delivery of the PASS programme and student engagement with their LPs.


Monitoring & Evaluation

• Monitor student engagement and outcomes related to the PASS programme.

• Produce reports and recommendations for continuous improvement.


Person Specification

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & PERSONAL QUALITIES

Essential:

  • A degree in Education, English, Humanities, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting or teaching students in academic writing, study skills, or digital literacy.
  • Strong written and oral communication, including interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deliver engaging support sessions both in-person and online.
  • Ability to work as a team member to enhance the quality of taught provision, increase levels of student satisfaction and, improve levels of student retention, progression and employability, and support student enterprise activities.
  • Organised and detail-oriented, with a commitment to student success.
  • Strong digital skills (e.g: using MS Office suite).
  • Ability to respond and adapt with agility to a dynamic environment and demands.
  • Able to work with competing priorities and to tight deadlines.
  • Innovative and creative


Desirable

  • Experience working in higher or further education.
  • Familiarity with UK academic conventions and assessment types.
  • Ability to effectively utilise digital learning platforms (eg., Canvas, Turnitin)
  • Knowledge of higher education regulation, quality assurance, and contemporary pedagogical trends, particularly within the UK sector.
