High School Cognitively Impaired (CI) Regional Program Teacher
Position Summary
Reeths-Puffer is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and highly qualified teacher for the High School Cognitively Impaired (CI) Regional Program. The successful candidate will provide specialized instruction and support for students with cognitive impairments in a structured and supportive educational environment. The teacher will collaborate with staff, families, and community agencies to promote academic, functional, behavioral, social-emotional, and independent living skills for students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized educational programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Provide direct instruction in academic, functional life skills, communication, vocational, and social-emotional areas.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the individual learning needs of students with cognitive impairments.
- Utilize evidence-based instructional practices, behavioral supports, and assistive technology as appropriate.
- Collect and maintain accurate student data, progress monitoring, and documentation related to IEP goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with general education staff, related service providers, families, and outside agencies to support student success.
- Maintain a positive, structured, and safe classroom environment.
- Supervise and collaborate with paraprofessionals and support staff assigned to the program.
- Participate in IEP meetings, professional development, staff meetings, and required trainings.
- Support transition planning and post-secondary readiness for students.
- Complete targeted-case management responsibilities for Medicaid billing on a monthly basis.
Qualifications
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement required.
- Approval to teach students with Cognitive Impairments preferred.
- Experience working with students with cognitive impairments and diverse learning needs preferred.
- Knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and compliance requirements.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with behavior intervention strategies and positive behavioral supports.
- Experience developing transition and vocational programming for high school students.
- Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive curriculum resources.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to assist students with mobility, personal care, and daily living skills as needed.
- Ability to lift, move, or assist students, when necessary, in accordance with district guidelines.
- Ability to safely respond to behavioral or emergency situations.
