The Training Manager will be responsible for overseeing and enhancing the training and development programs for employees within the underground mining division. This role will ensure that all training activities meet regulatory requirements, improve operational efficiency, and uphold the highest standards of safety. The Training Manager will have a strong background in mining operations, particularly in underground mining, with a deep understanding of safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and employee development.
Responsibilities
- Training Program Development:
- Design and implement comprehensive training programs tailored to underground mining operations, including new hire onboarding, safety training, skills development, and leadership training.
- Continuously assess training needs by working closely with department heads and frontline supervisors to ensure that the training programs meet operational goals and safety requirements.
- Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure all training programs comply with industry regulations, including but not limited to OSHA, MSHA, and any relevant state/local mining regulations.
- Lead training initiatives that focus on safety awareness, risk management, emergency response protocols, and environmental standards.
- Training Delivery:
- Coordinate and deliver training to both new and existing employees, using various instructional methods such as classroom training, hands-on practice, eLearning, and simulations.
- Manage the control of HSET documentation, including access control, version control and naming conventions for all HSET documents.
- Tracking and Reporting:
- Develop and maintain records of employee training progress, certifications, and compliance status.
- Monitor the effectiveness of training programs through assessments, surveys, and feedback from employees and supervisors.
- Prepare and present regular reports to senior management regarding training performance, challenges, and improvements.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Evaluate and update training materials to ensure content remains relevant, up-to-date, and effective.
- Stay current on industry trends, new training technologies, and regulatory changes to ensure the company’s training programs are best in class.
- Leadership & Team Development:
- Manage a team of trainers, providing guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
- Foster a learning culture within the organization, encouraging knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Regularly visit RUSAC projects to audit training programs and resources and to reinforce the Redpath Safety Program.
- If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
- Responsible to keep work areas safe and free of hazards. Performs Field Level Risk Assessments.
- Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
Comply with daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures.
Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information.
Complies with and ensure compliance with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations.
- Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.

Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, or a related field (preferred).
- Additional certifications in training, safety, or mining operations are an asset.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the mining industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role focused on training and development in underground mining operations.
- Proven experience in developing and delivering training programs, preferably in high-risk industries such as mining, construction, or heavy industry.
Knowledge Required:
- In-depth knowledge of underground mining operations, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, motivate, and influence others.
- Proficiency in Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other training technologies.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Familiarity with MSHA, OSHA, and other relevant regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
