The HSET Superintendent is responsible for managing and mentoring the project underground safety team in all aspects related to HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) including, but not limited to, HSE management systems including regulatory and client compliance, project risk management, compliance to HSE Standards, Occupational Hygiene, and Injury/Illness management.
In this position, the HSET Superintendent will interface with MSHA and State Mine Inspectors regarding compliance with all aspects of health and safety under the direction of the Project Manager and Project Superintendent. The Safety Superintendent is responsible for supporting operations and management of the implementation and continuous operation of all RUSAC safety plans, and all applicable federal and state regulations, to facilitate Redpath’s Safety- First, Last and Always practices.
Responsibilities
1. Responsible for leading and supervising site safety personnel and HSE operations.
2. Ensures site compliance with Redpath standards, MSHA standards, ATF regulations, applicable state
regulation and client requirements.
3. Responsible for Site Fatality Prevention program.
4. Work with new clients in the early stages of the job to establish a repour with client safety and Redpath
safety.
5. Start up of projects, work at site in the early start up to help get the safety department set up.
6. Update and maintain MSHA training plans.
7. Review and evaluate all MSHA citations. Challenge citations as needed through the MSHA litigation process.
8. Conducts investigations and leads other safety personnel all serious accidents or serious injuries,
coordinate with MSHA and client as needed during these situations.
9. Facilitate & train personnel in Incident Investigations for basic / root cause analysis.
10. Supporting employees and supervisors in conducting risk assessments.
11. Develop and review all HSE reports.
12. Ensures all departments are aware of obligations with respect to compliance to legislative and client
requirements, and conditions of the project contract and licenses.
13. Provide support to the project by maintaining a constant visible presence to the field performing
underground site visits to the entire project area of responsibility.
14. Inform the project leadership team and supervision of any new or conflictive legislative matters that
could impact the project.
15. Implement the Project Safety Management Plan (SMP) for the project to ensure a safe work
environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
16. Ensure all known incidents are reported immediately.
17. Ensure incident corrective actions are followed up and completed in a timely manner.
18. Review safety obligations of the clients and ensure they are carried out as per the terms of the contract,
and communicated to all, employees, leadership, etc.
19. Conducts RSP, training for new Redpath supervisors.
20. Investigating workplace situations.
21. Responsible for the hiring of qualified personnel.
22. Addresses safety-related complaints from employees.
23. Review disciplinary actions for employees.
24. Develops and evaluates employee performance.
25. Responsible for ensuring and keeping work areas safe and free of hazards, through monitoring day to
day operations and the guidance of the safety team, and site supervisors.
26. Must be able to comprehend and provide written and verbal instructions as required to perform duties in
an efficient manner.
27. Comply with daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures.
28. Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information.
29. Complies with and ensure compliance with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the
appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
30. If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements
to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
31. Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations.
32. Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.

Qualifications
Education:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred.
2. AAS Occupational Development (Certified) preferred.
3. Mine Safety Professional (CMSP) preferred.
4. Mine Rescue Trainer MSHA Instructor Surface and Underground.
5. Special Investigation Training.
Work Experience:
• 10 years of Health and Safety experience, preferably in a underground mining environment.
• 4 Years leadership experience.
• Experience in Mine Inspection Techniques(including Health Sampling).
• Proven accident investigation experience.
• Trained in all aspects of Surface and Underground mining.
