About The Role
Join a high-growth, venture-backed startup as an early technical hire and play a pivotal role in shaping the technical foundation of our core mobile product. This role offers unparalleled ownership and impact, providing you with the opportunity to lead the design, development, and optimization of our mobile application. As a React Native Engineer at Fig, you will be responsible for building scalable, high-performance mobile features that enhance user experience and drive product success. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers and designers, to translate innovative ideas into robust mobile solutions. This position is ideal for a seasoned mobile developer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to make a tangible difference in a cutting-edge startup.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates should possess over 5 years of software development experience, with at least 3 years dedicated specifically to React Native for cross-platform mobile applications. Expertise in React Native core principles, Expo (including EAS), TypeScript, and modern state management libraries such as Jotai, Zustand, or Redux is essential. Proven experience in profiling and optimizing complex mobile apps, utilizing tools like React Profiler and Flipper, is required to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks. Candidates should have a strong background in architecting and building scalable Design Systems, emphasizing modularity and performance. Additionally, extensive experience managing network layers, including data fetching, caching, and error handling with tools like Tanstack Query, SWR, or Apollo, is necessary. A solid understanding of backend integrations with REST APIs and familiarity with cloud platforms such as Firebase, Supabase, or GCP will be advantageous. Strong product sense, user-centric design focus, and excellent problem-solving skills are vital for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of our mobile application using React Native and Expo (EAS), ensuring high quality and performance standards.
- Architect and enhance a high-performance Design System with TypeScript, focusing on component reusability, styling tokens, and comprehensive documentation using tools like Storybook.
- Develop and maintain the core network layer, ensuring efficient data fetching, robust error handling, and effective caching strategies with tools such as React Query or similar libraries.
- Drive app performance optimization by reducing re-renders, minimizing bridge traffic, leveraging JSI for smooth animations, and optimizing startup times to deliver a consistent 60 FPS experience.
- Take full ownership of core mobile features from concept through to deployment, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality implementation.
- Contribute to maintaining high code quality through rigorous peer reviews, knowledge sharing, and adherence to best practices.
