About The Role
Join a high-growth, venture-backed startup as an early technical hire at Fig. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the core technical architecture of our mobile platform, which is at the forefront of integrating AI tools into everyday business operations. As a key member of our engineering team, you will take ownership of developing, optimizing, and maintaining our mobile application using React Native and Expo (EAS). Your work will directly impact the user experience, ensuring our platform remains fast, reliable, and scalable. This position is ideal for a seasoned mobile developer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about building innovative solutions that drive business success.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you should possess a strong background with at least five years of software development experience, including three or more years specifically dedicated to React Native development for cross-platform mobile applications. You must demonstrate expertise in React Native core principles, Expo (including EAS), TypeScript, and modern state management libraries such as Jotai, Zustand, or Redux. Proven experience in profiling and optimizing complex mobile apps is essential, along with a deep understanding of building scalable Design Systems focused on modularity and performance. Familiarity with network/data fetching layers, advanced server data management, and backend integrations with REST APIs is required. A solid product sense with an emphasis on user-centric design, coupled with experience working with cloud platforms like Firebase, Supabase, or GCP, will set you apart. Bonus points are awarded for experience with native development (Swift/Kotlin), app deployment, testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and familiarity with JSI libraries like Reanimated v2+.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of Fig’s mobile application using React Native and Expo (EAS), ensuring high performance and reliability.
- Architect and improve a high-performance Design System utilizing TypeScript and component API best practices, emphasizing reusability, clear styling tokens, and comprehensive documentation (e.g., Storybook).
- Develop and maintain the core network layer, implementing efficient data fetching, robust error handling, caching strategies with tools like React Query, and streamlining data transformation processes.
- Drive app performance optimization initiatives, focusing on reducing re-renders, minimizing bridge traffic, leveraging JSI for animations, and optimizing startup times to deliver a smooth 60 FPS experience.
- Take full ownership of core mobile features from concept through deployment, ensuring alignment with product goals and user needs.
- Contribute to maintaining high code quality through rigorous peer reviews, knowledge sharing, and adherence to best practices.
