senior, highly autonomous L&OD contract role at Rakuten India, focused on end‑to‑end design, facilitation, measurement, and business impact for behavioral, management, and leadership development programs.
Role Overview
The Senior L&OD Facilitator is a strategic delivery partner to the Head of L&OD and senior business leaders, not a training administrator. The role owns the full learning cycle—needs analysis, bespoke design, content development, facilitation, and impact measurement—across behavioral, management, and leadership domains, with accountability for demonstrable business outcomes rather than activity levels.
Position & Engagement Details
The engagement is as an independent contractor with Rakuten India Enterprise Pvt. Ltd., under the Learning & Organizational Development function, reporting to the HR Director – Head of L&OD. It is an 11‑month, in‑office (5 days a week) Bengaluru‑based contract, renewable in 11‑month cycles with defined governance, check‑ins, and performance reviews.
Key Deliverables and Success Measures
Core deliverables include bespoke Learning Needs Analysis, program design and content development, facilitation of workshops and learning journeys, psychometric debriefs, learning effectiveness measurement, executive‑ready business reporting, and inputs to the annual L&OD roadmap. Success is measured through leader sign‑off on LNAs, design and content quality ratings, participant and facilitator effectiveness scores, development plan completion rates, timely measurement reports, and satisfaction with clarity and relevance of business insights.
Scope of Responsibilities
The role covers needs identification and diagnosis via structured LNA/TNI, interviews, focus groups, observation, and data analysis, translating business challenges into outcome‑linked learning briefs. It also encompasses designing context‑specific solutions using adult learning and evidence‑based frameworks, developing all learning artefacts, leveraging AI tools, facilitating diverse programs and assessments, providing 1:1 coaching, mentoring L&OD team members, and managing measurement and documentation to L&OD governance standards.
Qualifications and Certifications
The JD requires 12–15 years of progressive experience in L&D/OD or related fields, with strong credentials in designing and delivering bespoke behavioral, management, and leadership programs, preferably in technology‑led or engineering/product organizations. Preferred qualifications include CPLP/CPTD, CIPD Level 5/7 or equivalent postgraduate HRD/OD/Org Psych degrees, plus certifications in one or more major psychometric instruments (DISC, Hogan, MBTI, Harrisons, etc.) and an active ICF coaching credential (ACC, PCC, or MCC).
Knowledge and Tools
Deep knowledge of adult learning theories, OD frameworks, competency models, and learning measurement approaches (Kirkpatrick, Phillips ROI, OKR‑linked measurement) is expected. Tool proficiency spans e‑learning authoring tools (Articulate, Captivate, etc.), AI tools for content and analytics, LMS platforms, virtual facilitation tools (MS Teams, Zoom, Mural, Mentimeter), and strong MS Office 365 skills for documentation and reporting.JD-Sr.-L-OD-Facilitator-Consultant.docx
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate brings a business‑first mindset, strong practitioner credibility, consultative approach, and agility with multiple stakeholder groups from CXOs to engineers. They demonstrate high ownership, evidence‑based decision‑making, the ability to “hold a room,” constructively challenge briefs, adapt language and style to audiences, and use data for continuous improvement rather than mere reporting.
Contract Governance and Value Proposition
Governance includes weekly/bi‑weekly check‑ins with the Head of L&OD, bi‑monthly business reviews, formal performance reviews at mid‑cycle and end, and strict IP and confidentiality terms with exclusivity to RIEPL. The engagement offers direct partnership with senior leaders, influence on engineering culture and leadership effectiveness, complex and meaningful work in a fast‑paced global technology environment, and autonomy to apply high‑craft L&OD and AI‑enabled practices.
