Hiring: R&D Manager (Food Technologist)

At Smylo, we’re building India’s first clean-label, cat-first pet food brand for modern pet parents.
In just 14 months, Smylo has grown from an idea to a brand trusted by 25,000+ cat parents, shipping across Amazon, Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart and our own D2C website.
We were recently featured on Shark Tank India S5, where we partnered with Kunal Bahl, Anupam Mittal and Varun Alagh.
As we scale the brand and expand our product portfolio, we’re looking for a Food Technologist / R&D Executive to help us build the next generation of healthier pet nutrition. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys product development, experimentation and building something new from scratch.
What you’ll work on
• Work on new product development (NPD) across wet food, broths, treats and future product lines
• Improve existing recipes and formulations to enhance nutrition, palatability and shelf life
• Conduct ingredient research, trials and product testing
• Work closely with manufacturing partners and suppliers to scale formulations
• Ensure compliance with FSSAI and pet food regulatory guidelines
• Maintain documentation for product specifications, testing and quality checks
• Coordinate with operations, supply chain and marketing teams during product launches
Who we’re looking for
• Background in Food Technology / Food Science / Nutrition
• 1–4 years of experience in food R&D, product development, or food innovation
• Experience with product trials, formulation, and shelf-life testing
• Curious mindset and willingness to experiment and build new products
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment
Experience in pet food, meat processing, or functional nutrition is a plus but not mandatory.
