Job Title: Mathematics Instructional Assistant
Assignment: School Year – 7:15 am – 3:15 pm, 37.5 hours per week

Position Outcomes:
To provide one-on-one and whole group math support to students with an identified need for additional support. To collaborate with teachers, both in and out of the classroom, to help students achieve the learning objective in their classes.
General Responsibilities:
This work involves close interaction with staff and students with the primary emphasis on delivering targeted academic interventions to students in need of additional supports. This individual works with students with demonstrated academic needs related to math which may be evidenced through diagnostic tests, classroom assessments, academic performance, and/or teacher reports. The candidate works under the direction of licensed staff and administration to understand the scope and sequences of course and plan interventions to help students achieve the learning objectives of the course. The candidate is expected to exercise independent judgment, discretion, and confidentiality, as well as exhibit initiative, creativity, and organizational skills.
Qualifications:
- Possession of or ability to obtain Illinois State Board of Education Educator License with Stipulations - Paraprofessional or other ISBE license that requires a college degree.
- Strong mathematical skills in Algebra and Geometry.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Highly organized, responsible, and reliable.
Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:
- Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process and interventions.
- Knowledge of and experience with high school students’ needs and behavior problems.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, diagnostic testing platforms and math interventions.
- Ability to move about frequently in the classroom and in various other parts of the school.
- Some knowledge of computers and software applications, particularly PowerSchool, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Forms, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Notability, and Canvas.
- Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and distinctly with staff, students, and outside agencies.
- Ability to take initiative.
- Ability to demonstrate patience, flexibility, and judgment in interacting with students with learning needs.
- Ability to work with students one-on-one and whole group for individualized support.
Position Expectations:
- Assists students in MTSS and/or classroom, under the direction of licensed staff by:
- providing individualized or group instruction in Guided Study Math; supporting students to learn math content and concepts;
- collaborating with teachers to learn the scope and sequence of the Algebra 1 curriculum so they can pre-teach and re-teach content and concepts to help students demonstrate their learning;
- tracking student performance data for MTSS review; and
- communicating student progress to classroom teachers.
- Assists licensed staff by:
- pushing-in to classrooms to support student learning;
- designing and delivering lessons for Guided Study Math;
- analyzing student diagnostic data to help students close learning gaps in math;
- documenting individualized instruction provided and sharing with classroom teachers; and e. interacting with staff to discuss students’ progress and interventions.

- Exhibits a positive attitude and projects a positive image of the district to parents, students, and staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
