Overview
The Quality Engineer for Heavy Fabrication plays a critical role in ensuring that all fabrication processes meet the highest quality standards. This position is primarily focused on the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality assurance protocols, while working closely with engineering and production teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives. The goal is to enhance product reliability and customer satisfaction through rigorous inspection and testing of fabricated components.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement quality assurance plans and procedures for heavy fabrication operations.
- Conduct inspection and testing of materials and products to ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications.
- Perform audits of processes and systems to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to analyze engineering drawings and specifications to establish quality metrics.
- Utilize non-destructive testing (NDT) methods to evaluate material integrity and performance.
- Train production personnel on quality assurance practices and ensure they understand both standards and processes.
- Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of inspection results, quality metrics, and compliance reports.
- Investigate quality incidents and issues, providing analysis and corrective action plans to mitigate future occurrences.
Technical Skills
- Proficient knowledge and application of quality management systems and methodologies.
- Experience with heavy fabrication processes, materials, and inspection techniques.
- Capable of interpreting and analyzing engineering drawings and design specifications.
- Familiarity with quality tools such as statistical process control (SPC) and root cause analysis.
- Expertise in non-destructive testing techniques (NDT) including ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and liquid penetrant testing (PT).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related field.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in a quality engineering role within the heavy fabrication or manufacturing industry.
- ASNT Level II certification in NDT methodology is required.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes and standards relevant to heavy fabrication.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in heavy fabrication environments, demonstrating a strong understanding of fabrication techniques and standards.
- Proficient in welding processes and able to conduct quality assessments related to weld integrity.
- Strong skills in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, ensuring all definitions are met through quality inspections.
- ASNT Level II certification in relevant NDT practices is essential to monitor and assess material conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams while maintaining a focus on quality outcomes.
