Quality Control Engineer – Steel Pipes & Piping Products Full-time | On-site | Ahmedabad, Gujarat
Role Description
We are looking for a meticulous and technically sound Quality Control Engineer to join our head quarters in Ahmedabad. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all steel pipes and piping products meet defined quality standards, customer specifications and applicable industry codes. You will work on the shop floor alongside production and engineering teams, conducting quality checks on incoming materials and finished products, maintaining detailed reports, analyzing data to identify trends and participating in audits to ensure consistent quality standards are upheld.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform visual, dimensional and mechanical inspections of steel pipes and piping products
- Conduct and witness NDT activities including ultrasonic testing (UT), radiographic testing (RT), magnetic particle testing (MT) and hydrostatic testing
- Review material test reports (MTRs), mill certificates and heat treatment records for compliance
- Identify non-conforming products, raise non-conformance reports (NCRs) and coordinate corrective and preventive actions
- Maintain accurate QC documentation including inspection reports, test records and release certificates
- Analyze quality data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Liaise with third-party inspection agencies (TPI) and client representatives during final inspections
- Ensure all products comply with relevant standards such as API 5L, ASTM A106, ASME B16.9, IS 3589 and customer purchase order requirements
- Co-ordinate with manufacturers to resolve quality-related issues promptly
- Support internal and external quality audits
What We Are Looking For
- Hands-on experience with inspection and testing of steel pipes, tubes or related piping products
- Strong working knowledge of industry standards including API 5L, ASTM, ASME, and IS codes
- Proficiency in quality management systems and processes with familiarity in ISO 9001
- NDT Level II certification in one or more methods (UT, RT, MT, PT) is preferred
- Ability to read and interpret material specifications
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret quality metrics and identify trends
- Effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and reporting
- A detail-oriented mindset
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Industrial Engineering or a related field
- 2 to 6 years of experience in a QC role within steel pipe, piping products or a related setting
- Proficiency in relevant quality tools and MS Office for documentation and reporting
