About the Role
We're looking for a QA Engineer to ensure quality, reliability, and security across our entire product surface from mobile apps to backend services. You'll work closely with engineering, product, and design to catch issues before our users do, and help us build a culture where quality is everyone's responsibility.
What You'll Do
• Own end-to-end quality for a cross-platform encrypted chat app — Android, iOS, and Desktop
• Design and execute test plans for core features: 1:1 and group messaging, voice/video calls (WebRTC + LiveKit), media sharing, and status/stories
• Test end-to-end encryption flows — message encryption/decryption, key exchange, multi-device sessions, group sender key distribution, and call encryption (SFrame)
• Validate offline-first behaviour — message queuing, sync on reconnect, pending message retry, and conflict resolution
• Test real-time features — WebSocket message delivery, typing indicators, read receipts, delivery acknowledgements, and scheduled messages
• Verify platform-specific integrations — Android ConnectionService, iOS CallKit, VoIP push notifications (FCM/PushKit), and notification handling
• Test group features — invites, member add/remove, admin controls, thread replies, and group key rotation on membership changes
• Perform regression testing across app updates, database migrations, and protocol changes
• Test edge cases — poor network conditions, app backgrounding, force kills, low storage, battery optimisation restrictions, and multi-device scenarios
• Validate subscription and billing flows — plan upgrades, expiry handling, cross-platform purchase restoration, and paywall gating
• File detailed, reproducible bug reports with logs, screenshots, and device/OS information
• Collaborate with developers to reproduce, isolate, and verify fixes
• Test chat transfer (P2P LAN transfer) between devices — QR scan, encryption verification, and data integrity

What You Bring
• 4+ years of QA experience testing mobile applications (Android and iOS)
• Strong understanding of manual testing methodologies — functional, regression, integration, exploratory, and smoke testing
• Experience testing real-time communication apps — chat, VoIP, or video calling
• Ability to test across multiple devices, OS versions, and network conditions simultaneously
• Familiarity with bug tracking tools (Jira, Linear, or similar)
• Experience reading and analysing application logs (Android Logcat, Xcode Console) to isolate issues
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify subtle UI/UX inconsistencies
• Understanding of client-server architecture, REST APIs, and WebSocket communication

• Experience testing E2EE or security-focused applications
• Familiarity with automation frameworks — Espresso, XCUITest, Appium, or Maestro
• Experience with API testing tools (Postman, cURL) for backend validation
• Understanding of WebRTC — call setup, oudio/video quality, oudio oudioICE connectivity checks
• Knowledge of database testing (SQLite) and data migration verification
• Experience testing subscription/in-app purchase flows on Google Play and App Store
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and how QA integrates into them
• Experience with performance and battery/thermal testing on mobile devices
• Basic scripting ability (Python, Shell) for test data generation or log parsing
