About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer to join our dynamic team at Planys Technologies. In this role, you will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and continuously improving our quality management systems to ensure the highest standards of product reliability, safety, and compliance with defense standards. You will play a critical role in overseeing the quality assurance processes across the entire product lifecycle, from design and development through manufacturing and final testing.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in electronics and mechanical quality standards, with hands-on experience in conducting audits, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective and preventive actions. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain, to uphold quality benchmarks and ensure compliance with rigorous defense and industry standards. Your expertise will contribute to delivering mission-critical systems that meet stringent reliability, environmental, and safety requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality assurance within the defense, aerospace, or high-reliability electronics manufacturing sectors.
- Deep understanding of defense standards such as JSS 55555, MIL-STD, ISO 9001, and AS9100.
- Proficiency in quality tools and methodologies including 8D, FRACAS, FMEA, Fishbone diagrams, and root cause analysis techniques.
- Experience in PCB schematic review, layout, EMI/EMC robustness, and reliability analysis.
- Familiarity with supplier qualification, audit processes, and supply chain quality management.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical inspection, GD&T, and mechanical failure analysis.
- Knowledge of environmental and subsea qualification testing standards such as MIL-STD-810, IEC 60068, and DNV standards.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and ensuring compliance across all phases of product development.
Responsibilities
- Implement, maintain, and continuously enhance quality assurance procedures aligned with industry and defense standards such as JSS 55555, MIL-Q, MIL-STD, ISO 9001, and AS9100.
- Lead root cause analysis efforts using methodologies like 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone diagrams, ensuring effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Review PCB schematics, layouts, stack-ups, grounding, shielding, and BOMs focusing on EMI/EMC robustness, reliability, and derating considerations.
- Conduct component derating and reliability assessments for mission-critical systems to mitigate risks.
- Qualify and audit suppliers including EMS providers, PCB manufacturers, cable harness vendors, and machining vendors to meet defense QA requirements.
- Define and oversee Incoming Quality Control (IQC) plans, including sampling, traceability, and compliance verification processes.
- Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs), and ensure timely closure with clear root cause ownership.
- Implement First Article Inspection (FAI) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)-like procedures for low-volume, high-reliability manufacturing.
- Support system architecture reviews, ensuring compliance with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-1275/704, IEC standards, and JSS 55555.
- Evaluate component selection, obsolescence risks, alternative sourcing options, and workmanship quality.
- Conduct internal and external audits adhering to IPC-A-610 Class 3, IPC/WHMA-A-620, ISO 9001, and AS9100 standards.
- Benchmark electronic assembly processes, including soldering, conformal coating, and cable harnessing, to ensure quality and reliability.
- Oversee functional, burn-in, and environmental testing with clearly defined acceptance criteria.
