Quality Assurance Engineer – Job Description Role Overview
The Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality control processes to ensure products meet regulatory requirements and environmental standards. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to identify quality issues, implement corrective actions, and continuously improve product quality and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Quality Control Processes
- Develop and implement quality control processes for manufacturing environmental products.
- Define quality metrics and standards to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and customer specifications.
- Product Testing & Validation
- Design and execute testing protocols to validate performance, reliability, and safety of products such as composting machines and incinerators.
- Ensure all products meet defined quality benchmarks before release.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and other industry-specific regulations.
- Stay updated with regulatory changes and ensure ongoing compliance in product design and manufacturing.
- Root Cause Analysis
- Investigate product defects and customer complaints.
- Apply problem-solving methodologies such as FMEA, 5 Whys, and root cause analysis.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of quality checks, test results, and corrective actions.
- Prepare reports on quality metrics, defects, and non-conformances.
- Communicate findings with management and relevant teams.
- Training & Development
- Train production staff on quality standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Continuous Improvement
- Lead initiatives to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
- Apply lean manufacturing and quality management methodologies to reduce waste and optimize processes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Quality, or related field).
- 1–3 years of experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of quality management principles in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS).
- Knowledge of standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS.
- Proficiency in data analysis and problem-solving techniques.
- High attention to detail and strong documentation skills.
Key Skills
- Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Six Sigma methodologies (Green/Black Belt familiarity).
- Root cause analysis tools: FMEA, 5 Whys, Fishbone (Ishikawa), DOE (Design of Experiments).
- Quality systems & standards: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, CE, RoHS, emissions and environmental compliance (EPA-related standards).
- Testing & validation: accelerated life testing, thermal & mechanical testing, durability, emissions testing, HVAC/thermal performance validation for composting/incineration systems.
- Metrology & instrumentation: CMM, calipers, torque testers, flow meters, gas analyzers, data loggers & calibration procedures (Gage R&R).
- Software & tools: Minitab/JMP, Python for data analysis, SQL, MATLAB, LabVIEW, SAP QM / Oracle Quality / MasterControl or other QMS platforms.
- Embedded/controls testing: PLC testing, firmware validation, sensors and control loop verification.
- CAPA management, change control, non-conformance handling and quality audits (internal & supplier audits).
- Strong documentation, technical writing, and regulatory submission experience.
- Excellent communication, cross-functional collaboration, and project management skills.
