Role Summary:- FTL Transportation & Operations Manager
Location :- Mumbai
The FTL Transportation & Operations Manager is responsible for managing end-to-end transportation operations across Identified geography, ensuring vehicle availability, cost optimization, service reliability, transporter management, and operational excellence.
The role acts as the bridge between planning, procurement, transport partners, customer plants/warehouses, and customers to ensure efficient freight movement while maintaining SLA adherence and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Transportation Operations Management
•Manage day-to-day FTL movement (hub-and-spoke) operations across selected regions/lane networks.
•Ensure vehicle placement against dispatch plans and loading schedules.
•Monitor fleet utilization, turnaround time (TAT), detention, and transit adherence.
•Drive dispatch planning alignment with customers.
•Handle escalation management for delays/failures/exceptions.
•Ensure POD (Proof of Delivery) closure and shipment lifecycle tracking.
2. Transporter & Vendor Management
• Develop and manage transporter/vendor relationships across region of responsibility.
• Conduct lane-wise capacity planning and transporter allocation.
• Negotiate freight rates and manage spot-market dependencies.
• Monitor transporter performance through KPIs and scorecards.
• Ensure contractual compliance and adherence to agreed SLAs.
3. Control Tower & Visibility Management
• Monitor shipment visibility through GPS/TMS platforms.
• Ensure proactive exception management.
• Track in-transit risks and delays.
• Drive operational governance through dashboards and daily MIS.
• Coordinate with stakeholders for issue resolution.
4. Service/SLA Management
• Ensure OTIF/OTD targets are met consistently.
• Improve customer service levels and reduce transit variability.
• Manage escalations from sales, plants, warehouses, and customers.
• Drive root-cause analysis for operational failures.
5. MIS & Reporting
• Analyze transportation KPIs such as: ◦ Freight cost per ton/km ◦ Vehicle utilization ◦ Transit time adherence ◦ On-time dispatch/delivery ◦ Detention & idle time ◦ Damage & claims • Publish weekly/monthly operational dashboards.
• Support leadership with actionable insights.
6. Compliance & Safety
• Ensure statutory and transport compliance: ◦ E-way bills ◦ POD documentation ◦ Vehicle permits ◦ Insurance compliance ◦ Driver documentation
• Drive road safety and incident management processes.
• Monitor cargo loss/damage reduction initiatives.
7. Team & Stakeholder Management
• Lead regional operations teams and transport coordinators as we expand the team.
• Coordinate with: ◦ Hub operations ◦ Customer Warehouse ◦ Procurement ◦ Customer service ◦ Finance ◦ Sales teams
• Build operational SOPs and governance mechanisms.
