About the role
The Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC, http://www.qmic.com), Doha, Qatar, invites applications for an AI & Data Engineer who can take large-scale (generative) AI projects from first experiment to robust, scalable deployment. You will own every stage of the AI lifecycle: research, benchmarking, architecture, coding, MLOps, and post-launch monitoring, while collaborating with domain experts, data engineers, and product teams.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The main responsibilities of the AI & Data Engineer include but not limited to:
Prototype and productionize LLM-based solutions (OpenAI, LLaMA, Fanar, etc.)
Benchmark open-source and proprietary models; select the best fit for each use case.
Containerize and deploy models with Docker / docker-compose (or similar orchestration tools)
Design end-to-end training, inference, and monitoring pipelines
Implement CI/CD, versioning, rollback, and observability best practices
Work with structured and unstructured data; build features and data services that feed ML pipelines
Analyze large datasets to extract actionable insights
Develop and deploy real-world solutions for NER, text classification, image classification, object detection, etc.
Write clean, modular, well-tested Python code
Explain architectures, experiments, and results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Stay current with AI/ML research and translate advances into business value
JOB QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
The applicant should hold a Bachelor's or Master's in AI, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field. He/she should have the following skills:
2+ years hands-on experience delivering AI/LLM solutions in production
Expert-level Python and familiarity with major ML/DL frameworks
Solid grasp of ML fundamentals: model selection, optimization, evaluation
Proven track record in deploying, operating, and monitoring LLM or other AI systems at scale
Strong system-design skills (scalability, performance, fault-tolerance)
Docker and container-based model-serving expertise
Experience with data analytics, feature engineering, and mixed data types
Excellent communication and teamwork; ability to work independently when needed
Analytical mindset with a focus on performance and reliability
Familiarity with both open-source (LLaMA, Mistral) and closed-source (GPT-4, Claude) models
Experience setting up automated benchmarking for LLMs
Knowledge of rollback strategies and blue-green / canary deployments
Exposure to real-time data pipelines and streaming platforms

The Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC) is the first national innovations center, owned and founded by Qatar University, with a focus on using R&D to develop and deploy Intelligent Mobility and Smart Cities platforms and technologies. QMIC's main goal is to use locally engineered innovations & knowledge to enable creating home-grown technology industries that address national strategies and tackle regional emerging challenges. It was founded by Qatar University in 2009 and is registered and licensed to operate as a technology innovations center from the Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP).
