Job details:
PRAD builds products for demanding industrial and emerging medical applications. Reliability, traceability, and disciplined engineering are core to this role.
Role Overview
We are looking for a QA Engineer with strong hands-on experience in embedded hardware and firmware validation who can take responsibility for verification, validation, and quality discipline across product development.
You will work closely with hardware, firmware, industrial design, manufacturing, and certification teams.
This role requires hands-on hardware validation using lab instruments; software-only or test-case-driven QA profiles are not a fit.
Key Responsibilities
Verification & Validation
- Participate in requirements and design reviews and translate them into test plans, test cases, and verification matrices
- Define and execute functional, regression, and system-level tests for embedded products
- Perform system-level testing covering firmware, electronics, and mechanical integration
- Validate firmware behavior including boot, stability, configuration handling, upgrades, and fault recovery
Hardware & Firmware Testing
- Support board bring-up validation and production-intent hardware testing
- Perform structured debugging using logs, measurements, controlled experiments
- Debug issues across hardware, firmware, and interfaces (I²C, SPI, UART, GPIO, ADC/DAC)
- Validate power systems: regulators (LDO, buck), battery charging, protection circuits
Lab & Instrumentation
- Hands-on use of lab equipment:
- multimeter, SMU, oscilloscope, function generator, power supplies, test jigs
- Use SMU for precise voltage/current sourcing during validation and failure analysis
- Read and interpret schematics, datasheets, and reference designs to support debugging
Quality Processes & Root Cause
- Own defect tracking (JIRA or equivalent) with clear reproduction steps
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) across design, firmware, hardware, and process
- Contribute to FMEA, reliability reviews, and risk assessments
- Ensure corrective actions are closed and not repeated
Compliance, Certification & Documentation
- Prepare and maintain controlled test procedures, SOPs, and validation reports
- Generate test evidence required for certification, audits, and compliance reviews
- Support pre-compliance and external laboratory testing (IP, EMI/EMC, environmental)
- Ensure traceability between requirements, tests, results, and releases
Pilot Build & Manufacturing Quality
- Support pilot and early production builds from a QA/QC perspective
- Assist in defining incoming inspection and end-of-line validation where applicable
- Capture and analyze pilot and field feedback and feed it back into design improvements
Required Qualifications
Must-Have
- 3–4 years of experience in QA / validation / test engineering for embedded or electronic products
- Strong understanding of embedded systems and microcontroller-based products
- Hands-on experience with hardware and firmware testing and debugging
- Ability to write clear test plans, procedures, and validation reports
- Comfortable working across R&D, testing, and pilot manufacturing
Strongly Preferred
- Experience with sensor-based or safety-critical devices
- Exposure to battery-powered product validation
- Validation of alarm and safety mechanisms
- Experience with NFC, BLE, or wireless interfaces
- Exposure to EMI/EMC, ESD, ingress (IP), and environmental testing
- Familiarity with production testing and manufacturing quality flows.
