QA Engineer II – Manual & API Testing

Role Overview
As a QA Engineer II at Astra Security, you will be a critical guardian of our product quality- owning test coverage end-to-end for our SaaS security platform. Your primary mandate will be to ensure that our engineering and product teams ship with full confidence, catching issues before they reach our customers.
You will work closely with engineering, product, and security scanner teams to design and execute exhaustive test plans. Your deep expertise in manual testing, API validation, and methodical debugging will be the foundation on which we build product reliability. This is a hybrid role based in Bangalore.
What You'll Do at Astra
•Manual Testing: Own thorough manual testing efforts across new features, regression cycles, and exploratory testing sessions- acting as the last line of defence before release.
•API Testing: Conduct deep functional, performance, and security testing of our RESTful APIs- validating request/response behaviour, edge cases, authentication flows, and error handling.
•Debugging & Root Cause Analysis: Apply sharp analytical thinking to isolate bugs, triage issues effectively, and provide developers with precise, reproducible bug reports that accelerate resolution.
•Test Planning & Execution: Draft detailed test plans and structured test cases for new features, enhancements, and hotfixes- ensuring nothing slips through the cracks.
•Bug Tracking & Reporting: Log, prioritize, and track all defects using standard bug tracking tooling; collaborate with developers to ensure timely and quality resolutions.
•Test Environment Management: Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot testing environments that enable accurate and repeatable test execution across our stack.
•Process Improvement: Continuously raise the bar- evaluate new testing methodologies, tools, and approaches, and champion improvements that make the team faster and more effective.
•Cross-Functional Collaboration: Embed yourself as a quality partner across product, engineering, and security teams- participating in sprint ceremonies, design reviews, and release planning.
What We're Looking For
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline (MCA/BTech preferred).
•3 to 6 years of hands-on experience in a QA/testing role with a clear track record of manual and API testing.
•Strong proficiency in manual testing- experience designing test strategies, creating test cases from scratch, and executing thorough regression cycles.
•Solid experience in API testing using tools such as Postman, REST Assured, or equivalent- with a good grasp of HTTP, authentication, and RESTful design principles.
•Exceptional debugging skills- you can chase down a bug through logs, network calls, and code paths until you find the root cause.
•Experience testing web-based SaaS applications and front-end interfaces (React-based applications is a plus).
•Strong analytical mindset with the ability to think like an attacker- breaking features, not just validating happy paths.
•A self-starter who thrives in ambiguity- able to take ownership, define processes where none exist, and deliver without hand-holding.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills- clear bug reports, crisp test documentation, and confident articulation of quality risks.
•Comfortable with Bangalore hybrid working; open to on-site collaboration when needed.
•Good to have: Exposure to security testing concepts, familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, or experience in a cybersecurity product company.
