Overall Responsibilities

The PYP Teacher works collaboratively with the learning community to effectively implement the PYP and strive to ensure that the curriculum and interactions meet the needs of all students in line with the mission, vision and values of the School and the IB. The PYP Teacher understands and lives the School Vision and Mission and plays the role of a facilitator, a learner, and a leader.

Maintains professional working relationship with other PYP Teachers, Specialist Teachers, MYP and DP Teachers, Administrative & Residence Parent Staff.

All academic staff are required to work a minimum of 190 contact days with students and 210 days overall to include workshops, trainings, parent-teacher meetings, and school meetings. They may be required to work on some Saturdays as per the school calendar and unavoidable adjustments to be made, if any.


General Responsibilities

  • Ensure a physically and emotionally safe environment for students through positive interactions and responsible communication.
  • Use classroom and restorative practices that are positive, structured, consistent, respectful, and responsive to student needs, to build an inclusive learning community.
  • Use a wide array of data to make instructional choices and create specific action plans to increase student achievement, including dynamic student grouping for small group instruction.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of inquiry and create opportunities for agentic learning for an active student voice, choice, and ownership.
  • Encourage students to interact and work cooperatively with others and engage all students in activities.
  • Respect all timelines for various aspects related to the curriculum.
  • Maintain documentation pertaining to learning, teaching, and assessing.
  • Upload data regularly on the server for data protection and reference.
  • Contribute to meetings and reviews.

Curriculum related Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues regularly for learning and teaching processes and to ensure a strong visibility of trans-disciplinarity.
  • Plan units of inquiry within and outside the scope of the Programme of Inquiry as per the IB Framework and pedagogy
  • Monitor assessments to inform learning and teaching practices and to differentiate learning experiences as per students’ needs.
  • Assess, record and report assessments on Wizemen regularly.
  • Use a variety of tools and assessments for learning, teaching, and assessing.
  • Analyse data of assessment to create an action plan for student growth and development.
  • As a leader, displays a growth mind-set, experiments, and implements new and innovative strategies and practices.


Other Responsibilities

  • Take an active role in the wider community, participating in extracurricular activities, school trips, and extension activities, as necessary.
  • Be responsible for communicating effectively with external all stakeholders.
  • Take on active supervision during scheduled duties.
  • To maintain confidentiality of privileged information about students, faculty members, and administration.
  • Celebrate and display student work through systematic documentation or learning stories.
  • Contribute to events and celebrations in school through active involvement.
  • As a leader, makes suitable suggestions for improvement and contributes to ongoing School developments.
  • Play an active role for self-development and growth through self-initiated PD.
  • Implement practices/ learning acquired from IB and non-IB workshops and guide other members on these aspects.
  • Regularly read the IB Documents and visit MY IB to keep abreast of developments and to collaborate with other IB Educators.

  • Create and maintain a safe and positive working environment and relationship with the Co-Tutor/ Co-Teacher, making sure he/she is involved, challenged, and valued, and is given suitable responsibilities

  • Maintain professional relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Actively participate in Appraisal Procedures.
  • Represent the school by being a good role model.
  • Model the qualities of the IB learner profile/attitudes and be an active member of the learning community.


In addition to the above, responsibilities will include any other tasks/assignments or work assigned by the School Director/Principal/Administrator or Management.
