The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) is seeking an entry-level Data Engineer to join our Business Analytics & Data Engineering team. This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Business Analytics. This role will support league business operations by designing, maintaining, and optimizing data systems that drive insights across ticketing, marketing, sponsorship, fan engagement, and league operations. The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation, an eagerness to learn, and the ability to turn complex data into reliable, accessible resources for business stakeholders. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines to consolidate data from multiple business systems into centralized data platforms (BigQuery, AWS) Support data modeling and transformation to ensure clean, well-structured datasets for analytics and reporting Partner with analysts and business teams to provide data infrastructure that powers dashboards, reporting, and decision-making in Tableau Write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries for data extraction and analysis Build and maintain Python-based scripts and tools for automation and data processing Monitor data quality and implement processes to ensure accuracy, reliability, and scalability Document data workflows, definitions, and standards to improve transparency and collaboration QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in computer science, data engineering, information systems, or related field (or equivalent experience) 0–2 years of professional experience in data engineering, business intelligence, or analytics (internships or co-op experience welcome) Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases Exposure to Google Cloud BigQuery and/or AWS environments Basic experience with Python for data manipulation and automation Familiarity with Tableau (or another BI platform) for data visualization and reporting Strong analytical thinking, critical thinking skills, and attention to detail Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with non-technical stakeholders SKILLS, ABILITIES & OTHER ATTRIBUTES: Experience with ETL/ELT tools or workflow orchestration (e.g., dbt, Airflow) Familiarity with APIs and data integration methods Interest in applying data solutions to business operations, marketing, sponsorships, and fan engagement Strong organizational skills with attention to detail Ability to take direction and work collaboratively within a team environment Excellent time-management and communication skills Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required Candidate must be able to work remotely
