Purchase Engineer (Electrical / Transformer Industry)
🔹 Job Title: Purchase Engineer
🔹 DepartmentProcurement / Supply Chain
🔹 Location: Padra, Vadodara
🔹 Reporting To
Purchase Manager / Supply Chain Head
🔹 Job Purpose
To manage procurement of raw materials, bought-out components, and services required for manufacturing electrical equipment such as transformers, ensuring cost efficiency, quality compliance, and on-time availability.
🔹 Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Sourcing
- Source and procure materials such as:
- CRGO/CRNGO steel, Copper conductors (wire/strip). Transformer oil, Insulation materials (press board, paper, epoxy), Radiators, bushings, conservators, hardware, Identify, evaluate, and develop new vendors for cost-effective sourcing, Float RFQs, analyze quotations, and negotiate pricing & commercial terms, Prepare and process Purchase Orders (POs)
Vendor Management
- Develop and maintain strategic vendor relationships
- Conduct vendor evaluation and performance review (quality, delivery, cost)
- Ensure vendor compliance with company standards and certifications
- Coordinate with vendors for timely delivery and issue resolution
Cost Control & Negotiation
- Drive cost reduction initiatives (value engineering, alternate sourcing)
- Negotiate: Pricing, Payment terms, Delivery schedules
- Monitor market trends for key commodities (copper, steel, oil)
Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate with: Production planning team for material requirements
- Design/engineering team for technical specifications
- Quality team for inspection and approvals
- Ensure timely availability of materials to avoid production delays
Inventory & Documentation
- Monitor inventory levels and avoid overstocking/stock-outs
- Maintain procurement records, contracts, and documentation
- Ensure ERP system updates (SAP/Oracle or similar)
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all procured materials meet technical specifications
- Coordinate inspection (incoming quality checks)
- Handle non-conformances and vendor rejections
- Ensure compliance with ISO, safety, and statutory norms
Logistics Coordination
- Coordinate with logistics for inbound shipment planning
- Track deliveries and resolve delays
- Optimize freight and transportation costs
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Cost savings / procurement efficiency
- On-time delivery (OTD) of materials
- Vendor performance rating
- Inventory turnover ratio
- Reduction in emergency purchases
- Quality rejection rate
Required Qualifications
🎓 Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in: Electrical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering
- OR Diploma with relevant experience
Experience
- 5–8 years in procurement within:
- Transformer / electrical equipment manufacturing
- Power equipment / heavy engineering industry
- Hands-on experience in purchasing technical components
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of transformer components and materials
- Vendor sourcing & development skills
- Negotiation and cost analysis
- ERP systems (SAP preferred)
- Strong understanding of BOM and drawings
Behavioral / Soft Skills
- Strong negotiation and commercial acumen
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Communication & stakeholder management
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Experience in transformer or power equipment companies (e.g., ABB, Siemens, Voltamp, CG, etc.)
- Strong vendor base in electrical components
- Exposure to plant-level procurement
Compensation
- As per industry standards (based on experience and skill set)
