Foragen’s food crop seed division- “Innovative Genetics” is looking for Pulses Breeder
Role Description The Pulses Breeder role at ForagenSeeds is a full-time, on-site position based in Ballari (Karnataka). The Pulses Breeder will design and implement breeding programs for pulses crops, including planning crosses, managing field trials, and evaluating germplasm for yield, quality, and resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. This role involves data collection, statistical analysis, and documentation of breeding progress, as well as coordination with agronomy, seed production, and quality teams to ensure the successful commercialization of improved varieties. The Pulses Breeder will monitor nursery and trial fields, supervise technical staff during sowing, crop management, and harvesting, and ensure adherence to best practices in breeding and seed technology. The role also includes collaboration with external research institutions, staying current with advancements in plant breeding and biotechnology, and contributing to the development of sustainable, farmer-focused technologies.
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of plant breeding and genetics, preferably with a focus on pulses or legumes; ability to design and execute breeding schemes and selection strategies.
- Strong field research and trial management skills, including experimental design, data collection, trait evaluation, and statistical analysis using relevant software.
- Understanding of seed technology, crop production practices, and quality standards in commercial seed systems, with experience in varietal evaluation and release processes.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (agronomy, production, quality, and marketing) and communicate technical findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Master’s or PhD in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a closely related discipline; prior experience in pulses breeding or field crop improvement is highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving and documentation skills, with attention to detail in maintaining breeding records, trial reports, and regulatory or certification requirements.
