Job Description – Protection Engineer
Location: UAE / Saudi Arabia
Experience Required: Minimum 2 Years

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Protection Engineer with hands-on experience in numerical protection relays such as Siemens, ABB, and Micom for substation and power utility projects in UAE and Saudi Arabia. The candidate will be responsible for relay testing, protection scheme implementation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities for HV/MV substations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform testing, commissioning, and maintenance of protection relays in substations.
- Configure and troubleshoot Siemens, ABB, and Micom numerical relays.
- Execute protection relay testing using secondary injection test kits such as Omicron.
- Verify protection schemes including feeder, transformer, busbar, differential, distance, and overcurrent protection.
- Carry out relay coordination and protection settings verification.
- Conduct FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), SAT (Site Acceptance Test), and commissioning activities.
- Analyze relay fault records, disturbance reports, and event logs.
- Ensure proper integration of protection systems with SCADA/SAS systems.
- Prepare testing reports, commissioning documents, and technical records.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, OEMs, and project teams during project execution.
- Ensure compliance with utility standards, project specifications, and safety procedures.
Required Skills
- Hands-on experience with Siemens, ABB, and Micom protection relays.
- Knowledge of protection schemes for transmission and distribution substations.
- Experience with relay testing tools such as Omicron CMC, CPC 100, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with IEC 61850, Modbus, IEC 104, and other communication protocols.
- Strong understanding of electrical protection principles and substation systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, protection logic diagrams, and SLDs.
- Good troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Qualification
- BE / B.Tech in Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE)
- Preferred Experience
- Experience in HV/MV substation projects.
- GCC project experience will be an added advantage.
- Experience in transmission & distribution utility projects preferred.
- Willingness to travel and work at project sites in UAE and Saudi Arabia.
