Position Title: Substitute Paraeducator
Skills and
Qualifications
• Successful experience working with children with disabilities required
• High school diploma or equivalent is required
• Successful experience in providing instruction to elementary students is
preferred
• Ability to provide self-help and custodial care
• Current CPR/First Aide cards required or willing to acquire (and required to
keep current during employment)
• Clerical/computer skills preferred
• Ability to work successfully with a variety of students, staff
members, and parents
• Experience with playground supervision is desired
• Interest and desire in receiving additional instructional training is required.
Reports To Building Principal and Supervising Teacher
Major Tasks and
Responsibilities:
• Implements specially designed instruction through teacher direction
• Assist in preparation of materials
• Provide custodial care services to children including
• Diaper changing/toilet training
• Feeding
• Other personnel hygiene needs
• Assist in transfers-lift from chair to floor/changing table/adaptive equipment
• Maintain necessary paperwork associated with timelines and instructional
progression
• Job duties may change as students with disabilities change
• Supervision and playground duties as assigned
• Assist instructor with classroom management
• Assist with parent communication
• Medical procedures as delegated by the school nurse. Under the training
and supervision of a registered nurse certain nursing procedures may legally
be delegated to a non-medical person in the school setting. Only those
procedures which can be legally delegated will be considered, including:
• Oral Medication
• Clean Intermittent Catheterization
• Gastrostomy Feedings
• Lifting (up to 50 lbs.)
• Other duties as assigned by Supervising Teacher, Principal or Director of
Special Education
