Position Title: Substitute Health Room Assistant
Skills and
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Previous experience working with children
• Valid CPR/First Aid Card
• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
• Nurse’s assistant certified (NAC) or certified medical assistant preferred
(CMA)
• Must pass a background check which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
Reports To Building Principal and Supervising Registered Nurse
Major Tasks and
Responsibilities:
• Working with children from birth to age 21 in a school setting
• Work successfully with a variety of students, staff members and
parents
• Work with children with special needs
• Medical record keeping
• Receiving and administering medication and completion of necessary
paperwork
• Assist the school nurse and perform duties as assigned
• Administer first aid, contact parents, document intervention, complete
accident reports as needed
• Screen students for communicable diseases and take appropriate
action and follow up
• Process immunization information, update student files and notify
parents/nurse of deficiencies
• Refer child abuse and neglect suspicions to nurse/principal
• Screen annual student health inventory forms for health concerns,
identify new health conditions, follow up with parents, notify nurse of
new health conditions and file
• Process new student records and notify nurse as needed
• Assist nurse in scheduling and performing health screenings with
follow up
• Assist nurse in scheduling and performing migrant physicals, record
results and follow up on referrals
• Assist nurse in entering health data into electronic student
management program
• Maintain confidentiality in health room and school
• Other duties as assigned.
