JOB SUMMARY
The Head Girls Soccer Coach is responsible for leading, developing and managing the middle school
girls’ soccer program in a positive, educational, and competitive environment. This role focuses on
developing the fundamental soccer skills, game knowledge, fostering teamwork and sportsmanship,
and supporting physical and personal development of student-athletes. The Head Coach is
expected to be highly qualified and knowledgeable in the development and implementation of a
comprehensive middle school soccer program aligned with teaching fundamental and advanced age
appropriate, progressive soccer skills. They are to plan, organize, and conduct structured practices
that maximize skill development and team cohesion. The Head Coach must be able to develop
game strategies and make effective in-game decisions. They are to serve as a mentor and role
model, promoting discipline, respect, and a strong work ethic. Additional responsibilities include
supervision and collaboration with assistant coaches, equipment management, travel supervision,
along with field maintenance and game set up and operation. The Head Coach must also
communicate effectively with assistant coaches, players, parents, school staff and administration
while ensuring compliance with school policies and safety standards. This position requires strong
leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to fostering both athletic development and
character building. This person should be one of high character and values that will set a positive
example for all students in the Prosser School District.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and
yearly thereafter.
• Must submit a Driver’s Abstract, copy of Driver's License, and auto insurance.

REQUIRED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Essential Functions
• Must recognize his/her responsibilities for conducting his/her team activities within the
policies and regulations established by the WIAA and the Prosser School Board
• Head Coaches should have knowledge of conference, district and state rules and should
possess the following items:
WIAA Handbook - updated every year
Rule book for their sport
League Handbook - Standard Operating Procedures

• Provide leadership, supervision and organization of a specific interscholastic activity at the
designated school level
• Report all injuries to athletic director and school nurse, and complete Accident Report
paperwork
• Secure all doors, lights, windows, and gates/locks before leaving the facility
• Cooperate with and consider the needs of other coaches
• Provide for safety and welfare of participants. Stress safety precautions and awareness of
appropriate training and injury prevention procedures
• Organize the program so it is consistent with district philosophy, goals and objectives
• Develop fundamental skills and implement sports programs based on good sportsmanship
and leadership building activities
• Provide for safety and welfare of athletes
• Prepare and condition athletes for competition
• Supervise and evaluate assistant coaches and recommend personnel for assistant coaching
positions to the athletic director
• Develop and organize practice plans
• Scheduled water breaks
• Health and safety concerns for sport
• It is the responsibility of the head coach to make sure all practice plans are on file with the
athletic director
• Inventory, selection, care, maintenance of equipment and playing surfaces
• Prepare a budget for his/her sport and submit it to the ASB secretary.
• Attend appropriate coaches’ meetings and WIAA rules clinics where applicable
• All inventory will be in an electronic format and submitted to the athletic director at the end of
the season
• Assist in registration and clearance of athletes
• Review district and league rules and regulations
• Schedule a meeting with all athletes and parents to review team expectations. Thoroughly
explain the eligibility requirements, participation rules, district athletic code, and team
expectations to all squad members.
• Assist athletic director in scheduling departure times and early dismissal time from school
• Promote the sport, within WIAA guidelines
• Implement a system for issuance and collection of school equipment
• Instruct, organize, and utilize assistant coaches, supervise their instructional methods,
techniques, and organization
• Be responsible for athletes from the time they report until they leave for home. Supervise all
dressing room facilities any time they are being used by athletes. Coaches will not leave the
facility until the last athlete has gone home
• Stress safety precautions and follow return to play protocol for all injuries
• Have ‘travel cards/emergency cards available at all practices and games
• Accompany and direct the team in all contests at home and away and be responsible for the
conduct of the team and the assistant coaches at the contests

• Follow league SOPs in providing program information and contest results
• Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner
• Report infractions of the athletic code, league SOP's, or WIAA rules and regulations to the
athletic director immediately
• Provide the athletic director for file purposes, a copy of all general correspondence and
bulletins to students and parents prior to the distribution of the information
• Arrange for cleaning, repairing, storing and inventory of all equipment in a timely manner
• Arrange for issuing letters, certificates, and special award in compliance with the school's
policy and direction of the athletic director
• Arrange for an athletic awards event or banquet for your sport.
• Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments
• Recommend to the athletic director personnel for assistant coaching positions
• Complete end of season paperwork and submit it to the athletic director
• Perform such other related duties as may be assigned by the athletic director
• Frequent inspection of protective equipment to see that it is in good repair and properly fit
• In case of serious injury, secure all equipment involved and retain in actual condition
• Safety Plan information discussed with athletes and parents
• Rules, expectations, and procedures given to players and parents
• Rules clinics put on by local officials’ association
• Practice schedule for each day, including safety techniques emphasized in each drill
• Consider videotaping various practice sessions showing fundamentals taught terminology
used, etc.
• Inspect all protective equipment to be issued. Discard equipment that is not safe or is
beyond repair
• Review of rules of sport and league rule changes with coaching staff and athletes
• Review with staff the fitting procedures for protective equipment
• Review with staff the techniques and actions of an athlete that are unsafe and could cause
serious injury to the athlete, a teammate, or opponent
• Review with staff the safety techniques and fundamentals that will be used in your sport
• Review first aid procedures and emergency plan with coaches and manager
• Report any unsafe conditions in the practice or game site facility that could result in injury
• Remind staff to renew CPR and First Aid cards for the upcoming season. Turn in all final
forms, documents and coaches’ education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience
• Successful head coaching experience preferred
• Experience working within a school athletic program
• Hold a valid current “hands-on” CPR Certification or be enrolled in a “hands-on” CPR
course
• Knowledge of current program techniques and strategies
• Demonstrated skill in program development and evaluation
• Demonstrate ability to motivate young athletes

• Commitment to uphold policies and expectations of the school district.
