Job Description (JD) – Proposal Engineer (Steel Structures)
Job Title: Proposal Engineer – Steel Structure
Department: Design
Location: Mumbai
Reporting To: Manager – R&D and Design
Job Summary
The Proposal Engineer – Steel Structure is responsible for preparing technical and commercial proposals for steel structure projects. The role involves studying drawings, quantity estimation, costing, vendor coordination, and preparing competitive quotations for clients.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Proposal Preparation
- Review and understand client requirements, tender documents, specifications, and drawings.
- Read and interpret AutoCAD drawings for steel structure projects.
- Prepare technical proposals based on project requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering and design teams for technical clarifications.
2. Material Estimation & Billing
- Prepare BOQ (Bill of Quantities) and material take-off from drawings.
- Estimate steel and non-steel material quantities.
- Prepare material quantity calculations.
- Verify project material specifications and standards.
3. Costing & Commercial Offer Preparation
- Prepare costing for steel structures and related components.
- Calculate fabrication, erection, transportation, and material costs.
- Develop commercial offers and quotations.
- Analyze project costs to ensure competitive pricing.
4. Vendor Coordination
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for quotations and pricing.
- Compare vendor quotations and finalize cost-effective options.
- Maintain vendor database and pricing records.
- Follow up for technical specifications and delivery timelines.
5. Tender & Documentation
- Prepare tender documents and submission packages.
- Maintain proposal records and documentation.
- Ensure timely submission of proposals and quotations.
- Support negotiations with clients on technical and commercial matters.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of steel structure fabrication and construction.
- Ability to read and understand AutoCAD drawings.
- Knowledge of quantity estimation and material billing.
- Understanding of costing and commercial proposal preparation.
- Vendor handling and negotiation skills.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and AutoCAD.
Qualification
- Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in proposal engineering, estimation, or steel structure projects.
Preferred Industry
- Steel Structure / EPC / Fabrication / Construction / Industrial Projects / Racking
