About the Role
The Project Engineer serves as the critical technical backbone of our construction operations — bridging the gap between engineering design and field execution. This role is responsible for overseeing technical aspects of construction projects from inception through closeout, ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget, and in full compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
You will collaborate closely with Project Managers, field superintendents, subcontractors, owners, and design teams, providing hands-on engineering expertise and administrative rigor that keeps projects running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Engineering & Design Support
- Review, interpret, and enforce engineering drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.
- Prepare, track, and manage RFIs (Requests for Information) and submittals.
- Identify and resolve design conflicts or discrepancies in the field with project managers.
- Maintain accurate documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
2. Project Planning & Scheduling
- Assist the Project Manager in developing and maintaining detailed project schedules.
- Monitor construction progress against milestones and report variances to management.
- Coordinate procurement of materials, equipment, and long-lead items.
- Support in change order preparation and negotiation.
3. Quality Control & Compliance
- Monitor all work for conformance with plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Document non-conformances or deficiencies.
- Coordinate third-party testing and inspection activities with the project team & inspection agencies.
- Ensure compliance with construction regulations and permit conditions.
- Monitor project lifecycle.
4. Subcontractor & Stakeholder Coordination
- Act as the primary technical liaison between the owner, architect/engineer, and subcontractors.
- Attend, facilitate, and document project meetings, OAC meetings, and coordination sessions.
- Coordinate subcontractors, schedules, and sequencing to avoid conflicts with the project team.
- Identify project risks and assist in developing mitigation strategies.
6. Reporting & Administration
- Prepare accurate daily field reports, weekly progress reports, and executive summaries.
- Lead and manage a team of Project Coordinators (PCs) while monitoring multiple projects to ensure adherence to timelines and prevent schedule delays.
- Maintain comprehensive project logs: RFI, submittal, change order, issue, and punch list logs.
- Track and document material deliveries, equipment utilization, and workforce deployment.
- Assist in managing project budgets, forecasts, and cost-to-complete reports.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related field (required).
- A master's degree or MBA is a plus.
Experience
- 8-12 years of hands-on experience in commercial, industrial, or infrastructure construction.
- Proven experience in project coordination & problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience with renovation or civil projects preferred.
Technical Skills & Proficiencies
- Strong expertise in construction, drawing interpretation, and redlining.
- Expert-level proficiency in project management software like Procore.
- Advanced capability in scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 and MS Project.
- Advanced capability in cost control and budget management.
- Expert-level proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Intermediate knowledge of contract administration and change order management.
