About this role:
Good evaluation work rarely speaks for itself. The insight is only as useful as the story built around it — and that story needs to land differently for a program team trying to improve classroom quality, a leadership team making decisions, and a CSR partner asking what their investment achieved. This role exists because U&I's MEL team generates real evaluation findings, and we need someone who can turn those findings into narratives that drive action. You will work within our evaluation systems, synthesize what the data is telling us, and translate that into outputs that matter — from internal insight notes to the Annual Impact Report. This is not a role where you run numbers and hand them over. It is a role where you take ownership of what those numbers mean and how they get told.
What will you do:
Evaluate and Synthesize
- Support the design and refinement of baseline, midline, and endline evaluation frameworks across the Teach Program.
- Analyze quantitative data using Google Sheets or Excel to identify trends, outcome shifts, and patterns worth paying attention to.
- Synthesize qualitative inputs — interviews, field notes, reflections — into structured, usable insights.
- Work within our evaluation systems to ensure findings flow consistently into the right outputs.
Build Narratives That Land
- Translate evaluation findings into clear, evidence-backed narratives for multiple audiences — program teams, leadership, and CSR partners.
- Develop leadership briefs and operational insight notes that help decision-makers act on what the data is saying.
- Contribute narratives and insights to CSR reporting, working closely with our dedicated CSR team.
- Build a repeatable system where a single set of evaluation insights feeds multiple outputs without duplicating effort.
Own the Annual Impact Report
- Lead the revamp and development of U&I's Annual Impact Report — not just updating it, but rethinking how it reflects the depth and breadth of the team's work.
- Position the report as a meaningful artifact that puts the MEL team's contribution on the map, internally and externally
Strengthen Evaluation Practice
- Standardize how outcomes are measured across the Teach Program.
- Train and coordinate a cohort to conduct nationwide evaluation pilots, and lead pilots directly when required.
- Work closely with program teams to contextualize findings and make evaluation conversations useful, not just reportable.
- In year one, explore alongside the Head of MEL what an ASER-style internal diagnostic report could look like for U&I — at whatever level is appropriate.
What are we looking for:
Essential
- Narrative and synthesis ability: This is the core of the role. You can take a set of findings — quantitative and qualitative — and build a coherent, compelling story from them. You write clearly and know how to frame an insight for different audiences.
- Data literacy: You are comfortable analysing data in Google Sheets or Excel. You can identify trends, spot what matters, and know what to do with it. You do not need to be a statistician — but you need to be comfortable enough with numbers to let them inform your narrative rather than intimidate you.
- Systems thinking: You work within structures, not around them. You understand how outputs connect and can build repeatable processes that make future work easier.
- Evaluation methodology: You have either prior experience with outcome measurement frameworks, or a strong enough affinity to learn quickly. Baseline, midline, endline — this should not be a foreign language.
- Independent ownership: You can manage evaluation timelines and outputs without being managed at every step.
- Communication range: You can write a tightly structured leadership brief and also explain a finding in plain language to a program team. Both matter.
Good to Have
- Beginner to intermediate R or Python for data analysis
- Basic statistical knowledge — trend comparison, cohort analysis
- Experience in education, nonprofit, or social impact contexts
- Familiarity with CSR reporting requirements
- Experience conducting interviews or supporting evaluation studies
Who is this role for:
- You are 1–2 years into your career and you have always been the person who asks what the data actually means, not just what it says. You write well and you know it — but you want to write about things that matter, not just things that ship.
- You are comfortable working inside a system and improving it from within. You do not need everything to be defined before you start, but you do need a structure to work from.
- You want a role where your output — the story you tell about a program's impact — shapes how people think, decide, and act. That is what this role offers.
Additional details about this role:
- Reports to: Head of Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning
- Location: Remote (India-based)
- Travel: Limited, as required
- Level: Entry to Mid-level
