About Manjhi
Manjhi began just over two years ago with a simple yet powerful vision: a future in which women from marginalized communities are empowered to make key decisions about their lives. We work towards building communities where women and adolescent girls can make informed decisions about their safety, seek help without hesitation at the first sign of risk, and where communities step in early to prevent violence. Our audacious aim is not only freedom from violence, but also freedom from the fear of it.
Today, Manjhi works across 9 settlements in Lucknow, reaching over 1,000 households, over 250 adolescent girls, and a growing network of young women leaders.
Our work is anchored in three key approaches:
- Providing girls with knowledge and resources through our “Swasthya Suraksha Khabar” curriculum, enabling them to make informed choices about their health and safety.
- Creating safe spaces and peer groups where girls and women can openly share, seek support, and navigate challenges together.
- Building leadership among young grassroots women through our fellowship program, empowering them to drive change within their communities.
At the heart of Manjhi are our fellows—young leaders shaping safer, stronger futures for themselves and those around them. We onboarded our first batch of fellows in 2024 and their grit, resilience, and commitment to social change has strengthened our commitment to our vision – to build a future where every woman is the captain
