Program Overview For Sustainable Cities And Transport
WRI India’s Integrated Transport Program supports India’s decarbonization journey through effective, equitable, and inclusive mobility solutions. The program focuses on advancing sustainable urban transport, including electrification of public transport, clean air initiatives, and hydrogen economy. It emphasizes strategic research, policy support, and capacity building to enable systemic changes at the sub-national level and accelerate electric mobility adoption.
Job Highlight
You will support the execution of the strategic communication priorities for WRI India’s Sustainable Cities program. You will translate rigorous research and on-groundwork into high-impact narratives and multi-format communication products for online and offline communication, strengthening WRI India’s positioning at the sub-national, national and global levels.
You will be required to craft compelling messaging across multiple projects, themes, and partners, while leading end-to-end execution of communication products and other deliverables. You will manage project-based communications of WRI India’s diverse work under urban development pillar—spanning urban water and climate resilience, economic planning and development, public spaces, urban governance—translating them into cohesive, integrated storytelling tailored for varied audience sets and channels.
What You Will Do
Communications Planning and Strategy Support (30%)
- Develop and oversee communications outputs for the urban development portfolio, aligning messaging with program priorities, organisational goals, and stakeholder requirements.
- Support annual/quarterly communications planning, including social media, content pipelines, publication support, dissemination strategy, and performance tracking.
- Integrate core messaging frameworks and narratives for government, partners, donors, peer institutions, media, and citizen-facing communications.
- Coordinate within teams and program leads to ensure project specific requirements are planned and executed within dynamic deadlines.
Digital Media, Storytelling & Content Innovation (35%)
- Review and strengthen all communications outputs across Urban Development (UD) projects, ensuring alignment with WRI India brand, editorial, and design standards across social media platforms and offline collateral.
- Support development of high-quality, high-impact digital and offline storytelling, including exhibitions, impact videos, infographics, reports, carousels, etc.
- Translate research outputs, field insights, and policy recommendations into more accessible, and editorially sound digital/offline products for different stakeholders.
- Manage the development of digital platforms and tools (webpages, microsites, dashboards) in coordination with internal teams and external vendors to ensure timely updates, message coherence, and quality control.
Editorial, Media, Knowledge Products & Partnerships (35%)
- Support the editorial and research direction for the program: plan and co-create blogs, impact stories, case studies, op-eds, research publications, and other donor-facing products in line with WRI India standards.
- Draft press releases, media pitches, briefing notes for publication launches and key convenings.
- Manage the end-to-end development of long- and short-form formats such as podcasts, webinars, and communication series with clear dissemination plans.
- Ensure consistent, professional communication collateral for stakeholder engagements: presentations, brochures, one-pagers, partner toolkits, and presentations.
Event outreach (embedded across responsibilities)
- Develop outreach strategy for key convenings and launches (pre/during/post) with external partners, ensuring strong visibility and narrative coherence across outputs.
- Oversee documentation and amplification of workshops and stakeholder engagements—including, photos, short videos, quotes, key messages, rapid turnaround highlights.
- Coordinate with program teams to ensure event-specific communication deliverables are planned and executed within stipulated timelines.
What You Will Need
- 8–12 years of relevant communications experience, preferably in development, climate, urban policy, research, or public interest related organisations
- Demonstrated success leading multi-project, multi-partner work, with measurable impact (reach, engagement, uptake, media coverage, stakeholder response).
- Strong editorial skills: excellent writing, editing, and narrative structuring in English; Hindi or other Indian language proficiency like Kannada/Marathi is an added advantage.
- Advanced capability with digital content systems and tools: Design + video editing proficiency (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Premiere Pro/Final Cut).
- Comfort with production processes—storyboarding, scripting, videos, vendor coordination, post-production feedback cycles.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage complex work requirements in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders: researchers, government partners, donors, media, academia, vendors, and internal teams.
- Excellent project management skills in a complex, dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to uphold content quality standards under tight, dynamic timelines.
Potential Salary and Benefits: INR 18,00,000 to 24,00,000
Salary shall be commensurate with experience and skills. WRI offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.
