Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based at the Yenepoya Institute of Technology campus in Moodubidire. The Professor and Head of Department (HoD) of AI & ML will lead the department’s academic and research activities, including designing and updating curricula, delivering high-quality lectures, supervising laboratories, and mentoring students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The role involves guiding student projects and theses in artificial intelligence and machine learning, promoting interdisciplinary research, and fostering industry collaborations. The HoD will oversee faculty recruitment and development, coordinate departmental administration, ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and drive initiatives that enhance the department’s academic reputation and research output. Responsibilities also include organizing seminars, workshops, and conferences, engaging in funded research proposals, and contributing to institutional strategic planning.
Qualifications
- Advanced academic credentials, typically a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a closely related discipline, with a strong record of teaching and research.
- Demonstrated expertise in AI & ML domains such as machine learning algorithms, deep learning, data analytics, natural language processing, computer vision, and applied AI systems.
- Proven experience in academic leadership, including curriculum development, program coordination, faculty mentoring, and departmental administration.
- Strong research profile with peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, funded projects, and the ability to guide postgraduate and doctoral research.
- Ability to integrate emerging technologies and industry trends into teaching, and to build collaborations with industry, research organizations, and academic partners.
- Excellent classroom teaching, communication, and mentoring skills, with a student-centered approach and commitment to inclusive, non-discriminatory academic practices.
- Experience in designing outcome-based education frameworks, accreditation processes (e.g., NBA/NAAC or similar), and quality assurance in higher education.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within the institution and contribute to its long-term vision in technology and engineering education.
