Job Description – Mw Api Infrastructure Engineer

Role Summary
The Professional Middleware API Infrastructure Engineer with expertise in SwaggerHub and IBM DataPower leads API design governance and gateway infrastructure for the enterprise. This role ensures that API-first practices are embedded across the SDLC and that DataPower effectively enforces API policies at runtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and govern the enterprise API design process using SwaggerHub, ensuring OpenAPI compliance and standards
- Architect and manage IBM DataPower Gateway configurations aligned with API specifications
- Drive API lifecycle management from design through deprecation, leveraging SwaggerHub versioning and team collaboration features
- Implement DataPower policies that enforce API contracts defined in SwaggerHub
- Define and promote API design standards, style guides, and naming conventions organization-wide
- Collaborate with development, product, and security teams on API strategy and governance
- Lead performance analysis and optimization for DataPower gateway handling high API volumes
- Mentor teams on API-first development practices and DataPower policy development
Required Skills & Experience
- 10-12 years of middleware/API infrastructure experience with expertise in both SwaggerHub and IBM DataPower
- Expert knowledge of OpenAPI/Swagger specification, API design patterns, and RESTful best practices
- Advanced proficiency in IBM DataPower Gateway policy development and API security enforcement
- Experience with API governance frameworks and developer portal management
- Strong understanding of API versioning, backward compatibility, and deprecation strategies
- Familiarity with API testing tools (Postman, SoapUI) and contract testing
- Excellent communication skills with ability to influence across technical and non-technical stakeholders
GOOD TO HAVE
- Knowledge of AsyncAPI for event-driven API documentation
- Experience with API monetization and analytics platforms
- Exposure to alternative API gateways (Kong, Apigee, AWS API Gateway)
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
- Relevant IBM DataPower or API management certifications are a plus
