Job Description
Job Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain automation infrastructure to:
- Pre-process and import terrain, land use, and rainfall data into flood modeling platforms (e.g., hydrologic and hydrodynamic models) via available APIs.
- Manage large datasets, merge and conversion between diverse spatial data formats, including Rasters (GeoTIFF), ASCII grids, NETCDF, and Vector data (Shapefiles/GeoJSON)
- Process and integrate Remote Sensing data (e.g., satellite imagery, LiDAR, SAR) to extract land-cover features, elevation models, or flood extent boundaries.
- Automate the execution of large-scale simulation batches across multiple return periods and scenarios.
- Develop GIS workflows to translate raw model results into production-grade spatial layers and hazard maps.
- Leverage open-source python libraries to create high-quality interactive rainfall and flood maps, hydrographs, and depth-damage curves
- Collaborate closely with Hydrologists and Engineers to define technical requirements for model calibration tools and workflow enhancements.
- Foster relationships with cross-functional teams (GIS, IT, and Climate Science) to ensure seamless data integration and timely delivery of flood risk insights.
Technologies
- Programming: Proficiency in Python, R, or MATLAB.
- GIS & Raster Tools: ArcPy, PyQGIS, GDAL/OGR, GeoPandas, Rasterio, or WhiteboxTools.
- Data Formats: Expert handling of ASCII (.asc), GeoTIFF, NetCDF, HDF5, GRIB and Vector data (Shapefiles/GeoJSON)
- Visualization & Reporting: Matplotlib, Plotly, Bokeh

Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor/Master’s degree in Geoinformatics/Hydrology, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Physics or related field.
- 3+ years of experience writing and debugging codes and scripts for data analysis or environmental/flood modeling.
- Proven GIS expertise, specifically in developing automated scripts to handle large-scale spatial datasets and model outputs.
- Extensive experience with third-party libraries for building spatial visualizations (maps, charts, and dashboards).
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with an emphasis on spatial data precision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Raster/Vector Processing: Experience in terrain analysis (DEM conditioning) and watershed delineation.
- Domain Knowledge: Fundamental understanding of hydrologic (rainfall-runoff) processes, datasets and 1D/2D hydrodynamic flood models.
- Database Proficiency: Experience with SQL and relational/spatial databases for managing large simulation libraries.
- Cloud Computing: Experience deploying data workflows on GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Statistical Foundation: Understanding of probability, flood frequency analysis and extreme value statistics.
- Experience in Generative AI
