Role Summary
The Production Planner will be the critical bridge connecting demand signals from Sales with physical execution on the manufacturing floor. You will be responsible for creating optimized production schedules, managing inventory targets, and facilitating the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process. This role requires an active, on-the-ground collaborator who seamlessly coordinates with Production, Plant Operations, and Warehouse/Stores to minimize stock-outs while preventing capital lock-up in excess inventory.

Key Responsibilities
1. Production Scheduling & Execution
- Develop weekly and monthly Master Production Schedules (MPS) based on sales forecasts, plant capacity, and material availability.
- Convert the MPS into daily, highly detailed sequencing plans for the shop floor to maximize machine efficiency and minimize changeover times.
- Monitor daily production outputs against the plan, identify variances, and proactively adjust schedules to mitigate backlogs.
2. S&OP and Sales Alignment
- Act as the primary operational point of contact for the Sales and Commercial teams.
- Lead monthly/bi-weekly Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) alignment meetings to reconcile unconstrained sales demand with manufacturing constraints.
- Manage SKU-level fulfillment priorities during high-demand seasons or promotional launches to prevent stock-outs in critical territories.
3. Inventory & Stores Coordination
- Coordinate daily with the Stores / Warehouse team to audit raw material (RM) and packaging material (PM) availability before launching production runs.
- Set and monitor Material Requirements Planning (MRP) parameters to ensure a steady pipeline of ingredients and packaging without overstocking.
- Monitor Material Ageing reports to identify slow-moving or near-expiry inventory, coordinating with Sales for liquidation or Production for alternative usage.
4. Cross-Functional Troubleshooting
- Maintain a constant physical and communicative presence between the planning desk, stores, and production floor to solve real-time bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance (QA) regarding material clearance timelines to prevent assembly line stoppages.
Required Qualifications & Skillsets
- Experience: Minimum 5–6 years of core production planning experience specifically within an FMCG company (Snack foods, dairy, beverages, or packaged foods experience is highly preferred).
- Technical Acumen: Strong proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics) and advanced, formulas-driven Excel skills (for capacity modeling and data analysis).
- Core Competencies:
- Deep understanding of S&OP cycles, safety stock calculations, and capacity constraint planning.
- Strong interpersonal skills to navigate the naturally differing priorities of Sales (who want maximum stock) and Production (who want long, stable runs).
- High stress tolerance and adaptability to manage sudden shifts in order inputs from quick-commerce or modern trade accounts.
