Job Description – Production Engineer
Position: Production Engineer
Department: Production
Location: Surat, Gujarat
Qualification: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering
Experience: 2–5 Years (CNC Manufacturing Preferred)
Job Summary
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Production Engineer to manage daily production activities, improve manufacturing efficiency, ensure product quality, and optimize resource utilization. The ideal candidate should have strong technical knowledge of machining and fabrication processes along with the ability to lead shopfloor operations effectively.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduction Planning & Control
● Plan and monitor daily production activities to meet delivery schedules.
● Perform line balancing and optimize workflow.
● Prepare production schedules based on available capacity.
● Ensure optimum utilization of manpower and machines.
Manufacturing Process Management
● Understand machining, fabrication, and assembly processes.
● Improve production methods to enhance productivity.
● Monitor cycle time and lead time to improve manufacturing efficiency.
Engineering & Technical Knowledge
● Read and interpret engineering drawings.
● Apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles during manufacturing.
● Ensure adherence to engineering specifications and quality standards.
Quality Control & Process Improvement
● Analyze production defects and implement corrective actions.
● Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring issues.
● Reduce rejection and rework through continuous process improvements.
Lean Manufacturing
● Implement Lean Manufacturing principles.
● Drive 5S implementation across the shopfloor.
● Lead Kaizen initiatives for continuous improvement.
● Monitor and improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
● Identify and eliminate production waste.
Maintenance & Shopfloor Management
● Coordinate preventive maintenance activities.
● Monitor machine breakdowns and support corrective actions.
● Track machine utilization and production efficiency.
● Coordinate spare parts availability with the maintenance team.
Team Management
● Supervise shopfloor manpower.
● Train operators on SOPs, quality standards, and safety practices.
● Resolve day-to-day shopfloor issues and maintain discipline.
Documentation & Reporting
● Prepare and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
● Generate daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
● Maintain rejection, downtime, and productivity records.
Cross-Functional Coordination
● Coordinate with the Quality, Maintenance, Purchase, Stores, and Design departments.
● Provide timely production updates and reports to management.
Required Skills
● Strong knowledge of machining, fabrication, and assembly processes.
● Production planning and scheduling.
● Capacity planning and line balancing.
● Knowledge of engineering drawings and GD&T.
● Root cause analysis and defect reduction techniques.
● Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and OEE.
● Preventive maintenance and machine utilization monitoring.
● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
● Excellent communication and team management abilities.
● Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP/MRP systems is preferred.
