Job details:
We are a purpose-driven company operating as a fast-growing omni-channel (B2B and B2C) lifestyle brand. Our vision is to advocate for sustainable, conscious living by crafting beautiful, premium, handmade lifestyle products. Ecokari was born from a desire to create a community where sustainable development goes hand-in-hand with artisan empowerment. We are dedicated to reducing environmental waste by using exclusively eco-friendly and natural raw materials—such as handmade paper, hemp, bamboo, and recycled cotton—while creating meaningful livelihood opportunities for women artisans from humble backgrounds.
Role Overview: Product Development Manager – Toys & Gifting
The Product Development Specialist (Toys & Gifting) will manage the end-to-end product development lifecycle—from initial concept research and sustainable material innovation to prototyping, functional validation, and final product readiness. This role requires a unique blend of creative thinking, technical knowledge of natural/handmade materials, and commercial understanding across both retail consumer (B2C) and corporate/bulk (B2B) markets. You will ensure that every toy and gifting item developed aligns with Ecokari’s sustainability philosophy, strict safety standards, and commercial business goals.
What You Will Be Responsible For
- End-to-End Development: Manage the full-cycle product development across the Toys and Gifting categories, tailoring designs for both direct consumers (B2C) and corporate/bulk clients (B2B).
- Market & Trend Research: Conduct consumer and B2B market trend research to identify relevant festive hampers, corporate gifting suites, educational toys, and eco-friendly product opportunities.
- Material Innovation & Sourcing: Evaluate, source, and optimize sustainable raw materials—including handmade paper, hemp, bamboo, and recycled cotton—ensuring they meet strict safety, durability, and functionality standards.
- Tech Packs & Specifications: Create and maintain product sketches, technical specifications, material consumption sheets, and measurement standards for prototyping.
- Sampling & Revisions: Coordinate the prototyping process, testing structural integrity, safety compliance, and finishing to ensure high-quality and safe end products.
- Artisan & Production Coordination: Work closely with our in-house artisan tailoring and crafting teams to resolve technical assembly issues, simplify construction methods, and ensure timely development closures.
- Costing & Scalability: Support costing and margin targets by optimizing material yield, minimizing waste, and streamlining handmade production processes to fulfill both small batch and large-scale B2B orders.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with merchandising, corporate B2B sales, marketing, and production teams for smooth product transitions, storytelling integration, and on-time collection launches.
- Mentorship: Guide and support junior team members or artisans in technical execution, pattern-making, and assembly.
Who You Are
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Product Design, Toy Design, Textile Design, Craft Design, or a related field.
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience in product development, preferably within the toys, gifting, home decor, or sustainable crafts sector handling both B2C and B2B requirements.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of product construction, pattern making, assembly techniques, and working with natural materials (hemp, bamboo, handmade paper, recycled cotton).
- Tools: Proficiency in design tools (CAD, Adobe Illustrator, or Corel-Draw), tech pack development, and maintaining product specifications.
- Execution: Hands-on experience with prototyping, quality checks, and managing small-scale, artisan-based production setups.
- Mindset: Deep alignment with sustainable design principles, eco-friendly safety certifications (especially critical for toys), and commercial viability for bulk manufacturing.
- Soft Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple product lines simultaneously, with clear communication skills to collaborate with corporate clients, internal teams, and traditional artisans.
