Responsibilities
Role Overview:
At Principal, as a Product Manager I in Data & Analytics, you will be central to delivering valuable and viable solutions. You will collaborate with multi-functional product teams on data products that vary in complexity and sensitivity. This global role is key in accomplishing our data strategy, driving product delivery, and maintaining alignment with Principal’s enterprise-wide data and analytics vision. You will work within the Enterprise Data Analytics (EDA) and Enterprise Data Foundation (EDF) frameworks, using our hub & spoke operating model to provide scalable, governed, and democratized data solutions. Your responsibilities cover the entire data lifecycle—from source data integration to report creation—supporting business intelligence, analytics, and operational needs across regions.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Execution
Partner with senior product managers and collaborators to understand and implement the product strategy for data and analytics products, ensuring alignment with Principal’s enterprise and business strategies.
- Integrate business, customer, user, and partner insights to give a clear understanding of problems to solve and risks to handle.
- Develop and lead product strategy for data products of varying complexity, ensuring relationships and dependencies with other products and teams are clearly understood.
- Product Discovery
Accountable for understanding and defining key business outcomes and requirements for assigned data products.
Direct and develop a successful parallel discovery and delivery system, focusing on the context of one or multiple products.
Product Delivery
Ensure successful delivery of measurable, goal-aligned value in collaboration with technology and non-technology partners.
Play the role of product owner for SCRUM teams, collaborating on story creation, refinement, definition, success criteria, prioritization, and acceptance of work as done.Participate in agile ceremonies and communicate product updates to collaborators and partners.
Collaborate with teams to break down work.
Product Assessment
Monitor and share information about product health, effects of product updates, and progress toward product goals.
Ensure every goal-aligned unit of value built by the team is measurable and shows progress towards objectives.
Apply data to gauge performance and inform strategic revision and discovery. Collaborator Management & Communication
Communicate discovery and delivery priorities, measurable progress toward goals, and the overall health of product delivery with collaborators. Work with diverse collaborators across the department to understand, prepare for, and benefit from product changes.
Technical Competence & Data Fundamentals
- Solid knowledge of Snowflake, AWS, Data3sixty, CI/CD pipelines, APIs, Power BI, and fundamental programming (Python or equivalent).
- Understand the complete process from source data integration, ingestion, transformation, and visualization through to report generation for addressing specific business problems.
- Apply the Producer/Consumer Playbook for data integration, ingestion, and visualization phases, ensuring alignment with guidelines in data product development.
Understanding of the Hub & Spoke Model
Operate within Principal’s hub & spoke model, balancing centralized control with decentralized implementation for scalable, efficient, and responsive data operations.
Collaborate with hub teams for strategic direction and standardized processes, while enabling spokes (business units) to adapt and implement solutions locally.
- Product Roadmaps, Goals and Milestones, and Agile Practices
- Build and maintain product roadmaps, help teams set and track goals and achievements, and use tools like Jira for backlog management and Scrum for agile delivery.
- Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and delivery excellence within the product team.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or equivalent experience, or Master’s degree - B.E. / B.Tech / M.S. / M.Tech / MCA in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related subject area.
- Experience: 3+ years in product management, data analytics, or related roles; experience in global or multi-region environments preferred.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with Snowflake, AWS, continuous integration and delivery pipelines, APIs, Power BI, and foundational programming (Python or a comparable language).
- Business Insight: Intermediate to advanced understanding of business and financial concepts, customer development, and data-driven decision-making.
- Communication: Good communication skills, including the ability to influence and negotiate across levels and geographies.
- Problem Solving: Analytical problem-solving skills, including data manipulation and root cause analysis.
- Collaborator Management: Ability to manage diverse collaborators, drive value, and prioritize work for maximum impact.
- Ownership Approach: Accountability for key decisions, embracing change and new ideas, and driving outcomes aligned with broader business objectives.
- Agile & Product Practices: Familiarity with Scrum, Jira, objectives and key results, and modern product management techniques.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with Enterprise Data Analytics (EDA) and Enterprise Data Foundation (EDF) platforms in Principal or comparable organizations.
- Knowledge of hub-and-spoke operating models within data organizations.
- Awareness of data governance, data quality, and security guidelines.
- Familiarity with the Producer/Consumer Playbook for managing the data product lifecycle.
- Experience in collaborator management across global teams.
