About the Role
Backbase Grand Central is the iPaaS solution at the heart of Backbase’s Banking Platform — enabling banks to connect and orchestrate data flows across their entire ecosystem through API-based integrations with core banking vendors, payment rails, Open Banking providers, and other third-party data services.
As a Forward Deployed Product Manager for Banking Integrations, you will be embedded directly with strategic bank clients — serving as the primary PM point of contact throughout their integration journey with Grand Central. This is not a traditional product role. You will spend significant time sitting alongside bank architects and integration leads, running discovery sessions, translating complex requirements into actionable specs, and owning the delivery outcome at the customer’s end.
Your insights from the field will directly shape the Grand Central roadmap. You are the bridge between what banks need today and what the platform must become tomorrow.
Responsibilities — What You’ll Do
Own the end-to-end integration lifecycle for Grand Central’s banking vendor connectors — from initial discovery and API mapping through certification, pilot launch, and live deployment at client banks.
Serve as the primary PM point of contact for strategic bank clients throughout their Grand Central implementation, owning the relationship and delivery outcome from kickoff to post-go-live.
Lead technical discovery sessions with bank architects, integration leads, and core banking teams to understand their existing ecosystem, technical constraints, data flows, and business objectives.
Define and maintain integration standards for partner bank connections: API specifications, data mapping documentation, file format standards, reconciliation protocols, and operational runbooks that can be reused across implementations.
Translate complex bank requirements into structured product artefacts — PRDs, user stories, integration blueprints, and acceptance criteria — and work directly with engineering to clarify requirements, validate implementation details, and resolve technical trade-offs.
Support testing and validation of integrations prior to client go-live; act as first-line triage for integration issues raised by clients, implementation teams, and support — investigating root causes and providing engineering with clear reproduction steps and impact analysis before escalation.
Track and monitor integration health metrics post go-live: API latency, reliability, error rates, and reconciliation outcomes — driving continuous improvement cycles with client and internal teams.
Build trusted advisor relationships with technical stakeholders at client banks, becoming their expert resource for all things Grand Central and the voice of the client inside the product team.
Run technical workshops and enablement sessions to accelerate client adoption of Grand Central’s API integration capabilities (REST, SOAP, GraphQL, event-driven etc).
Surface integration gaps, recurring pain points, and client feedback to the core product team, directly shaping the Grand Central roadmap and contributing to quarterly OKRs with engineering leadership.
Collaborate with Sales and Pre-Sales on technical go-to-market for banking integrations — RFPs, proof-of-concept engagements, and product demonstrations.
Build and maintain repeatable integration playbooks, certification guides, and documentation that scale the Forward Deployed PM function as the partner bank network grows.
Who You Are
Required
5–8 years of experience in Product Management, Solutions Engineering, Technical Consulting, or Implementation PM — with at least 2 years leading integrations with banks, payment processors, or financial systems in a client-facing capacity.
Strong technical fluency with API-based integrations: REST, SOAP, GraphQL, webhooks, event-driven architectures, and backend data flows. You can read an API spec, spot a design issue, and lead a technical trade-off conversation with a bank’s engineering team.
Proven ability to produce and maintain integration artefacts: API specifications, data mapping documentation, integration playbooks, and operational runbooks that implementation teams can work from directly.
Experience as a primary client-facing PM throughout integration implementations — leading discovery, managing expectations, handling issue triage, and building trusted relationships with bank technical stakeholders.
Ability to act as first-line triage for integration issues: independently investigate root causes, assess impact, and provide engineering with clear reproduction steps and full context before escalation.
Strong analytical skills and cross-disciplinary communication — you can present a complex integration problem to a non-technical bank executive in the morning and detail the fix with an engineer in the afternoon.
Experience managing delivery backlogs in Agile environments, balancing client urgency against platform constraints and engineering capacity across multiple concurrent implementations.
Bonus Points
Hands-on experience with Backbase Grand Central, or comparable iPaaS / API management platforms: MuleSoft, Boomi, Workato, Snaplogic, or similar.
Experience with event-driven architecture, microservices, and data reconciliation processes in a banking context.
Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) in a banking technology deployment context.
