Job details:
Creato brings creators, brands and shoppers together in one app, with social content, shopping and brand collaborations all in one place. We're building a platform people can trust without second guesses, and we design with close attention to how people think and feel.
Why this role exists
Our visual system, design system and core screens are built. Now we want the app to feel alive.
That means creating a brand character. It also means making even the everyday moments feel warm and clear, like loading, errors, empty screens, sign-up and verification.
You'll be the person who draws it and makes it move.
What you'll do
Mascot
- Explore, design and finalise Creato's mascot with the Design Head.
- Build its model sheet (expressions, poses, do's and don'ts) so it looks the same everywhere.
Illustrations for key moments
- Design illustrations for empty, error, loading and success states.
- Create scenes for onboarding, the new login experience and the Get Verified (KYC) journey.
- Keep everything within our design system: colours, type, spacing and tone.
Motion
- Animate the mascot and illustrations for the app, using Rive for interactive work and Lottie for simpler animations.
- Design micro-interactions such as button feedback, screen transitions and success moments.
- Define our motion guidelines (timing, easing and durations) and add them to the design system.
Storytelling
- Storyboard onboarding as a short story, working with the Design Head and our UX/UI designer.
- Make sure every animation has a clear reason to exist.
Shipping
- Hand off light, fast files that developers can plug straight into the app.
- Work with developers to test animations on real devices and fix what breaks.
- Create reduced-motion versions for users who need them.
Later
- Extend the character and motion to App Store assets, launches and brand moments.
What success looks like in your first 90 days
- The mascot is final, with a complete model sheet.
- A set of animated empty, error and loading states is live in the app.
- The onboarding story is designed and in development.
- Motion guidelines v1 are part of the design system.
Must-haves
- 3–5 years in illustration and motion design, with at least some of it inside digital products (apps or web).
- Strong character design. Your portfolio shows one character drawn across many expressions and poses.
- Solid animation basics: timing, easing, anticipation, squash and stretch.
- Hands-on with Rive and/or After Effects + Lottie, with at least one animation shipped in a live product.
- Speed in an illustration tool such as Illustrator or Procreate.
- Comfort in Figma, and happiness working within an existing design system.
- Care for file size and performance, not just how the animation looks in a video.
How you think
- You bring ideas. You show several directions, not one, and explain why each could work.
- Delight never hides the fix. An error screen can be charming, but it must still tell the user what went wrong and what to do next.
- You work in systems. You build reusable rules, not one-off pieces.
- You're open and honest. You take feedback well and push back when you have a reason.
- You sweat the details. A few frames of timing matter to you.
Nice to have
- Interactive characters built with Rive state machines.
- Rigging experience (bones, mesh deformation).
- A background in casual mobile games or game UI.
- An understanding of sound and haptics in apps.
- Marketing visuals such as App Store screenshots, social posts and launch assets.
This role may not be the right fit if…
- Most of your work is social media reels, templates or video editing.
- You've never shipped an animation inside a product.
- You prefer keeping one personal style over adapting to a brand.
How to apply
Send us:
- Your portfolio (Behance, Dribbble or your own site), including at least one character project and one in-app animation.
- Proof of shipping, such as a link to a live app, or source files (.riv or Lottie JSON) if you can share them.
- A short note naming one app whose motion you love, and why.
Our process: portfolio review → conversation with the Design Head → paid 2–3 day task → final conversation with the founders.
What we offer
- The chance to create a brand character from day one and see it live in the product.
- Direct work with the Design Head and founders, with real room to shape how Creato looks and moves.
