About Wualt
Wualt is building a cellular-connected personal safety wearable: a smart ring that can get someone help in an unsafe moment. It has to work when it matters most, and it lives on a person's hand every hour of every day. So how it is shaped, how it feels, and how reliably it is built are central to the product. We are past prototype and moving toward production, and we're building our founding hardware team.
The Role
Own how the device looks, feels and wears, and how it is physically built. You are the bridge between industrial design and manufacturable hardware: you shape a ring people are proud to wear, and you engineer it so every component fits, survives daily life, seals against water and sweat, and comes off a production line reliably. Our team today is strong on electronics and firmware. Mechanical and industrial design is the gap, and it is yours to own.
What You Will Own
Industrial Design
- Form, colour, material and finish (CMF)
- Ergonomics and comfort across a range of finger sizes
- Human factors of a discreet safety wearable worn around the clock
- Create a device people genuinely want to wear
Mechanical Engineering
- Mechanical architecture and enclosure
- Packaging the PCB (including flex and rigid-flex), battery, antenna and sensors into a ring-sized form factor
- Tolerance stack-ups
- DFM and DFA
- Sealing and IP rating against water, sweat and dust
- Drop and reliability
- Flush, reliable skin contact for the sensors
- Clean ingress for the microphone and button
Concept to Production
- Concepts, renders and physical models
- CAD
- Prototypes (3D printing and machining)
- Tooling
- Own the mechanical side of EVT, DVT and PVT with our vendors
Working Across the Team
Work shoulder to shoulder with the electronics and firmware engineers on the board, as well as manufacturing partners, optimising the whole device rather than a single part.
Who You Are
- Roughly 2 to 7 years across mechanical and industrial design, or an exceptional graduate from a programme that teaches both (NID, IISc CPDM, IIT Guwahati Design, IDC IIT Bombay, MIT Institute of Design, DJ Academy of Design or Srishti).
- Hungry to own a product, not just a feature.
- Genuinely dual-skilled: strong in mechanical CAD (SolidWorks, Creo, NX or Fusion 360) and industrial design and rendering (KeyShot, Rhino), with real prototyping and model-making experience.
A portfolio that shows both:
- Objects that were actually built and manufactured.
- The form, CMF and rendering behind them.
- Manufacturing-minded: you understand production well enough to design things that can be made, and you enjoy working with engineers rather than handing designs over a wall.
Nice to Have
- Smart ring, watch, hearable, eyewear or jewellery experience
- Experience with miniaturised consumer electronics
- Waterproofing and IP-rated products
- Flex / rigid-flex packaging awareness
- DFM experience with Indian manufacturing vendors
What We Offer
- Founding-level ownership of the entire form factor, from the very first device
- Meaningful equity with milestone-based vesting, plus a cash package that is strong for this stage
- A product worn by real people, and full autonomy over how it is designed and built
Location: Chennai (or open to relocating)
You'll report directly to the founders and the hardware lead.
To Apply
Please send:
- A portfolio that shows both a device you helped bring to production (or your strongest built project) and the industrial design work behind it.
- A short note on what you personally owned.
Equal Opportunity
