Role : The Mechanical Procurement / Purchase Manager is responsible for managing procurement activities, tendering processes, vendor negotiations, and sourcing of mechanical engineering materials, equipment, and services for Defence, Aerospace, and industrial engineering projects. The role ensures timely procurement, cost optimization, quality compliance, and effective supplier relationship management to support manufacturing and project execution.
Responsibilities :
- Manage end-to-end procurement activities for mechanical engineering materials, components, fabrication items, consumables, and equipment.
- Review purchase requisitions and generate purchase orders in line with project and production requirements.
- Ensure timely procurement of materials to avoid operational and production delays.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with stores, production, and project teams.
- Handle preparation, submission, and follow-up of tenders, RFQs, RFPs, and techno-commercial bids.
- Analyze tender requirements, technical specifications, and commercial terms.
- Coordinate with engineering, finance, and management teams for tender documentation and approvals.
- Participate in Government, Defence, Aerospace, and industrial tendering processes.
- Maintain tender records, bid documentation, and contract files.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop reliable vendors and subcontractors.
- Conduct vendor negotiations for pricing, delivery schedules, payment terms, and contractual agreements.
- Develop long-term supplier relationships to ensure quality and continuity of supply.
- Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery, cost, and service parameters.
- Conduct vendor audits and maintain approved vendor lists.
- Achieve cost savings through strategic sourcing and negotiation.
- Perform comparative statement analysis and techno-commercial evaluations.
- Monitor procurement budgets and material costs.
- Support contract finalization and commercial discussions with suppliers and clients.
- Ensure procured materials comply with technical specifications and quality standards.
- Coordinate with QA/QC teams for inspection and material approvals.
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and statutory requirements.
- Maintain procurement documentation and audit-ready records.
- Coordinate with engineering, production, finance, logistics, and project teams.
- Prepare procurement MIS reports, vendor reports, and tender status reports.
- Lead and mentor procurement and purchase team members.
Qualification :
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
MBA / PG Diploma in Supply Chain Management or Procurement preferred.
Experience :
- 10 to 16 years of experience in procurement, purchase, or tendering functions in mechanical engineering, Defence, Aerospace, manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial sectors.
- Experience in handling Government / Defence tenders preferred.
